Yes, but they don't interfere with the route, which is Olano and his team who decide. ASO decides the starting city and little more

Samuel Sánchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi), Cadel Evans (Silence-Lotto), Ezequiel Mosquera (Xacobeo Galicia) and Robert Gesink (Rabobank) were all part of an escape at kilometre 20. Valverde's Caisse team worked to bring the group back six kilometres later.
First hour 49kph and no break, yet.

If Mosquera had ridden the climb with minimal water knowing he would get a bottle further up then the penalty is reasonable.

Interesting fact:

Due to a change in the route, 3km have been added to today's parcours according to the NOS ticker. I don't know where they made the changes though.

Evans' penalty was ridiculous after the neutral-car fiasco.

Maybe Mosquera just thought he would lose over 20 secs if he wouldn't drink for the rest of the climb.

Almost 20min lead for the escape group, that is a pathetic effort by the boys from caisse. I realise no one in the escape is going to affect the GC but they could have atleast tried to make it a smaller gap.

At this rate the escape group will catch them second time round on the climb Wouldn't that be freakin hilarious if it happened Has it ever happened before?

Someone should write in and ask Harmon & Kelly about it. If anyone would know it would be Sean Kelly. I realise that it would probably never happen in this day and age but maybe sometime in the past

I find his transition very impressive. I mean, he was quite the crosser, but to already feature in a 3 week GT, being on the attack and acting as a domestique...
