WADA drops appeal on Philip Nielsens Clenbuterol aquitance

This is more fallout from the "discovery" that Mexico has a meat contamination problem. As another thread here reports, WADA also dropped its case against the Mexican soccer players. As I mentioned on that thread, this shouldn't affect Contador--since he didn't eat Mexican beef--but Colo should be upset. His situation was virtually identical to Nielsen's, but he got a year (which strictly speaking should mean they recognized that it was contamination but thought he had some fault in it). Really, I think Colo now has very good grounds for suing to have his sanction overturned. I realize it's too late for him to get back the lost time, but he should not have any kind of doping offense on his record if Nielsen doesn't.

Did you even read the article you linked? It clearly states he was in Mexico

Ah ye. Am just dead tired so only skimmed it since I heard the short version on TV. Anyways, this seems to suggest that u can be aquitted if u have been to Mexico (or China). Maybe more riders will pull a Rasmussen and move to Mexico then (0;

Now, while this is different from the Contador case since he was not in Mexico its very much a legal prove that clenbuterol contamination from food is very much possible beyond a mere theoretical possibility. And that alone will help Contador. Cos while its very unlikely that european meat contains clen its by no means impossible, and together with the fact that WADA in this way admits that food contamination is something more than a theoretical possibility that should boosts Berties defense.

10 bucks that he will be aquitted, or just given a 1 year ban meaning he can continue riding.

The reason being clenbuterol use in livestock in Mexico is widespread and well researched.

A funny aside, The Tour of China had no beef on the menu for riders. Apparently no one told the Chinese food deciders that clenbuterol is used in chickens to boost their yield.

in my strong opinion, all props for wada dropping the nielsen appeal should go to danish anti-doping folks.

they not only run one of the toughest systems in europe but also are fair and reasonable. how do you say 'they have the balls' in danish :)

if we are to look back at the time line of the events, yes, they were probably emboldened by the rfec and the ovcharov's rulings which took place just prior, but still credit where it's due.
