Wanted: New Sponsor For HTC-Columbia

Mark Cavendish, in an article I read this morning is wondering why HTC-Columbia hasn't gotten and bites for a new sponsor at year's end.

Mark, maybe it has to do with all the doping news, rumors, truths, and questions. Aside from the fact that lots of businesses are pulling themselves up by their bootstraps, why would I want to pour money into any cycling team with all the doping questions out there?

They make me sick! Really and literally sick. I was convinced of 7 times winner of the Tour De France Lance Armstrong's guilt. I had just gotten back to liking the TDF when this Contador scandal broke and dashed my desires to even patronize any cycling events.

Any business that supports cycling these days may as well be pushers. According to those who testify about the doping it widespread. matschiner said it's as necessary to winning the Tour as having breakfast; And someone said "You can't win the tour without doping".

YOU CAN'T WIN THE TOUR WITHOUT DOPING!!!

Then has doping been around since in inception of TDF? A rider get suspended for doping and after serving the suspension dopes again and races gets caught again. It's a never ever take that in the faces of WADA and UCI and any other drug watch group.

Who said he tested over 200 times and half of those he had illegal substance in his body. Why didn't UCI catch it? Or did they do as with Lance(allegedly) turn a blind eye because winning is good for a growing sport? UGH!!! Makes me sick.

I love Big George Hincapie and had great respect for him. Landis if I'm not mistaken, has called him out in the Armstrong doping and BG was with Armstrong during his wins. I just got sick at the thought that George may have been doping. I can't root for any of them not truly knowing if they are clean or dopers. Not even Cav.

Were I a corporate business, I wouldn't touch any of them with a ten foot pole.

***BTW, Mark Cavendish, I applaud your helping the people of India. I support David Archuleta who supports 'Rising Star Outreach' which helps support the children of India.

If any of you are ever so inclined please support RSO.com ...

Why would any corporation want that potentially harmful gobby sh1te and one trick pony of a team.

Because they win lots. Publicity hawks won't care that they're one trick ponies (which they aren't) and they're the most boring team in the sport, when cycling is only a minority sport and unless one of their own riders tests positive they'll only be mentioned when they win.

They've found two new sponsors in a short period of time after T-Mobile went under.

columbia is still the old T-mobile team right?

they always find a new sponsor.

remember when they were riding without a main sponsor? before they were just team columbia? i think they were team high road.

i may be wrong about this but i think i heard the portuguese eurosport guys saying it.

you will never be a corporate business.cause you are a kid.or a dreamer.

doping is good.get over it.

now cycling,tits or GTFO!

It's people like you who make me really sick. Ppl who can't be winners for being losers. Doping isn't good for anyone in competitive sports. And since you're name calling, and thinking it is you must be one of those who used drugs during a race and got away with it.

Do you really think the mojority of ppl who supported Lance Armstrong, Contador, Petacchi, Basso, And the myriad of others who tested positive for doping, don't give a darn that they doped? Do you? Obviously you would sponsor a team even if every single rider on it doped and you knew they doped. Mores...the code of ethics ppl live by has got to come into play in our live for us to be better than the lower class animals.

Wake the crap up loser. Drugs don't belong in any sport. Especially not when kids have this misplaced fascination with soooo many athletes.

Anything worth having is worth struggling for even the Maillot Jaune. Does anyone remember when the winners used to struggling and fall over as soon as they crossed the finish line in the TDF? Now they just keep on rolling, not even breathless. :(

BTW: I understand that these drugs are also used in animal sports. Those who use them should be brought up on charges of animal abuse.

These drugs are used in pretty much all sports. It's just down to how much the authorities know/care about it.

The more money there is in a sport, the easier it is to sweep under the carpet (Football - both international and American codes - is a perfect example of this).

Correct. My favourite team (PSV Eindhoven) got accused this week that they treated Ronaldo (the real one) with cortisones to make him stronger at the age of18.

Whether this is true or not I don't know and whether the source (unoffical biographist) is credible I don't know but the matter of the fact is that noone seems to care. Even when we're talking about one of the absolute world stars of the last 10 years.

Don't try to publish such a story about a cycling star.

if you'll see me riding one of those crits and can't talk to you,now you know why.ephedrine is a hell of a drug.but still i'd beat the shiit out of you.

yes i do,about 90% of those people don't give a fucc about doping.in fact, doping is very popular in under 18 category and also extremely popular in single guys-jerk-offs-haters category.

if they wouldn't want to take PED's i would force them to.call me manolo saiz.

now i let you dream how to save the kids from this horrible world full of dope and ignorance.good luck with that.

The reason they're having trouble is any legitimate sponsor really doesn't want their reputation and product associated with a bunch of chemically induced cyclists who constantly bring the sport into question. The sport is in trouble, and it's only going to get worse when the top names falter. It starts with Contador, and others will surely follow because they can't help themselves. Sorry to tell Cavendish, but tough times are ahead.

No. There are more sponsors than ever. Look at the amount of big teams, it's staggering.

The talk about sponsors not coming to the sport anymore is bull****. Everyone is fighting for a ProTour spot. It would actually be good to lose some teams because the team structures are very much based on one leader with a few decent domestiques these days. Combine two of those teams and you will still have an average team. So yeah, I hope we get rid of a few teams.

Even though everyone else on the site posts in standard black text, I decided to join and use funky colors because I am oblivious to normal conventions

You always know the idiots on forums when they post in strange colors, weird font sizes, and random use of bold text.

You my friend are a newbie and a fraud. You totally do not understand our sport of pro cycling. Tell me what country you live in and I will be able to help you to enjoy and appreciate the sporting spectacle of cycling!

@jens_attacks: really feel sad for you and others like you who have no confidence in your own ability. Who feel they need to dope themselves up to play.

You know, I think really it's the agency that monitor doping that should be called on the carpet. they're the real pushers for allowing this manure to go on as long as it has. And in doing so have completely pulled the wool over the eyes of the sports spectators who sit in the bleachers or stand along the roadside and cheer so-called athletes who are nothing more than drug addicts. And you think there's GLORY in it.

I had major surgery a few months ago and my Dr. sent me home with Dilaudid and I flushed it because I didn't want to run the slightest risk of becoming dependent on it.

NO, I'm not being naive about the benefits of therapeutic drugs. If you're crippled by Arthritis and need an anti-inflammatory then take it; but doping to win a race. NO!!! People who pay to see their team or fav athletes don't pay to support their doping habits. Corporate execs shouldn't either.

@jens_attacks, you and those of your mentality make me sick.

BTW, don't let my being a woman or your being loaded with ephed stop you from jumping me. Feel froggy. You have no respect for others or yourself.

can someone tell me what he/she just said, because i cant actually read that green writing. Seriously messes up my eyes.

Its well researched that people with concentration problems struggle with non-standard fonts and colours. I would be willing to bet also that many dislexic people will struggle to read those posts.

I for one cant get past the first few words

If you really wanted to read it you can highlight so it's slightly more readable.

Something tells me that would be a bad move though.

I'm terribly sorry about my color. It's one of the few colors that doesn't hurt my eyes. I have vision probs and struggle with the black and some colors even shades of green.

Maybe you could cut and paste to your email or blog and read it there. :( Really sorry. If the site forced me to use blk I would but they off us colors.

Does the standard font hurt your eyes also?

Just to share, the public sewage system is meant for just that ,sewage. Knowingly flushing narcotics anti-depressents or anti-biotics into the treatment system poisons our waterways and the ocean.

If you need to dispose of medicine please call public health or your local hospital. I know this through members of the health s
ystem.
Myself I like to eat shellfish and coastal rockfish. I live on a marine sanctuary. Please respect our waterways and ocean and sea life. And me as I like to chose a clean life. thanks the flicker
