Warranty on Campagnolo Eurus wheels

Hi everyone

I'm after some advice regarding my Campag Eurus 2 way fit wheels bought in Sept 2015.

A rear spoke broke last weekend and my wife has taken it in to be replaced. Today she received a phone call to say that all the nipples are seized and that they will need to be replaced. The cost quoted is $100 labour, $1.50/nipple and $7/spoke for any spokes that may brake (which they said is likely) as they change the nipples over.

When my wife let them know that the wheel was under warranty (& was also purchased from the bike shop), she was told that the nipples are considered to be 'moveable parts' and therefore not covered under warranty.

I could live with the cost if one nipple was seized, however if every nipple on the wheel has seized and needs to be replaced then surely this is due to a fault and therefore should be covered under warranty? Looking at the Campagnolo warranty, I can't find any mention of exclusions wrt the wheels.

Does anyone have any experience with this, before I follow things up further tomorrow?

many thanks in advance.

That'a sounds like BS your shop is giving you. Are they even qualified? The spokes are very highly tensioned and difficult to turn but with the proper tools they should. I have replaced spokes in 2013 Fulcrum Racing 0 and Racing 1 Two Ways before, which are Campy products. Contact Jerry Ott at Campagnola NA before you let shop touch them. Hope that works out for you.

Thanks veganrob for your comments.

Surprise, surprise. The nipples were not seized after all. Supposedly when they loosened one nipple the others all were able to be loosened as well! Mind you this information came after they were questioned why the repairs (apart from the broken spoke obviously) were not covered under warranty.

Coincidentally I was told by a rider in my group that they had visited the shop the day before me and also had an unconvincing story (although not to do with wheels this time) from the same mechanic, who when questioned further altered his advice and significantly dropped the costs for repair.

After over a decade of using this bike shop, buying multiple bikes for the whole family, as well as for all repairs, I think it is time to maybe look elsewhere. They are a very big business and the mechanics in the workshop do come and go, however this experience and anecdotal feedback from several others of poor service in recent times is not good.

Thanks again for your comments.
