bianchigirl said:I post here once in a blue moon and don't really make a habit of ensuring that I either jump on every doping bandwagon or check every poster's history before I do so - I was addressing directly the contention that Harmon is some kind of 'upholder of the faith' because he chooses to condemn Vino. You and I are individuals on a forum expressing a personal, subjective opinion. I believe that Harmon can and should be held to a higher standard of objectivity professionalism and that there is a case to be made that, if a professional commentator plays favourites he is a) a hypocrite and b) shouldn't be getting paid for spouting an opinion when I can get that for free here and in the other cycling forums
Since when did sports commentators stop having opinions ? They also forecast results and are often wrong. I see it as part of their role. We live in a world where celebrities, politicians and high profile sportsmen are supposedly role models. Toss in cycling commentators and the idea becomes even sillier. I admired Vino's ride in the LBL last year but he will never be one of my favourite riders. I don't think Harmon's views will influence anyone else and you are right, Magnus Backstedt's commentary is excellent. Harmon has his pet hate's like most people. Sometimes he talks so much it is like white noise and easy to tune out of. The sober tones of Sean Kelly usually bring him back to earth !
