Bitburger, a 6-pack was $13.

Light, quite flat and remarkably sour (in a good way), if I recall correctly. I've visited the region - right beside the Luxembourg border - and the beer goes well with the heavy local cuisine there. :)

My favorite beer is just about anything produced by Sierra Nevada. They just finished their Summerfest run, which was great for after rides. The next seasonal is Tumbler, a dark, very smooth beer. Sometimes when I go to the pub with a riding buddy, we'll share the sampler tray...always educational.
When I travel, I'll go for any locally made brew. Reading this thread has been fun. Cheers!

Westbrook Brewing

Just wanted to give a quick promotion and ask if anyone else on the east coast has heard of this brewery. I visited over the weekend and spent a couple hours in the tasting room and took the tour. I recommend a visit if anyone is ever Charleston, SC.

Each sample was excellent. The Saison was my least favorite though. Ironically, they told me that was one of their most popular. The IPA was killer. :D

Great brewery. They are the largest Craft Brewery in the USA. In fact, the definition of Craft Brewery was changed in order for Boston Beer Company to continue to call themselves a "Craft" brewery. If I remember correctly, the production of "Craft" beer could not exceed 2 million barrels and still be called "Craft". I think that number was moved to 4 million barrels to accommodate Boston Beer Co.

Sam Adams is a good, sessionable beer. Enjoy it.

Not a fan of this one, I'm afraid, though I'll admit I've only ever had two. Very syrupy, you can really taste the sugar. All the types of Leffe are suspiciously sweet. No idea why.

October BotM is here. Just in time to toast my first race of the year (cross country running). Two from Santa Fe and two from Lost Coast (CA):

images

Great White (Lost Coast, CA)

I liked this Witbier. Lots of flowery and grapefruit instead of the orange tangy citrus I'm used to in a Wit. Particularly wheaty, which was goodI wish it was a little warmer outside when I drank it though, it would be a good summer beer.

Alley Cat (Lost Coast, CA)

My favorite of the four. Amber's are always a safe pick, pretty straight forward. But this one started with a bit of a tart fruit flavor, somewhere between grapes and dates, and finished hoppy enough to remind you its an amber. The most complex of the four, and the best body.

State Pen Porter (Santa Fe Brewing Co, NM)
I usually like porters, and this was a different taste Some good carmel and chocolate notes, and not super roasted like others. Just enough dark fruit to separate this from the traditional porter style. It was good, but a porter without that roast seems to lack a some body.

Nut Brown Ale, (Santa Fe BC, NM)
Initially tasted like a mellow brown ale, without much nut. It was good, but it took some focus to find the nut flavor. I tend to like nutty nut browns, so this was a let down, but a good option if you don't like to deviate from the good old brown style.

We've had some cool weather up this way (approaching 0 degrees Celsius) so I Finally uncorked one of my bottles of Bush de Nuits. Split it over a nice dinner (prime rib roast) with my wife and my father-in-law. We all really, REALLY liked it a lot.

I've never been particularly adept at describing flavours. So, I'll just say it was like music to my mouth.
