If there would be an alien invader of unknown physique and skillset, and challenges our planet for a 2017 cycling race.

which Rider and Race would you choose to defend our Earth?

Nibali actually did what you propose in 2014. The alien crashed out because he couldn't handle his awesomeness. ;)

Well, Froome and co neutralized a war on on a moon landscape before, so I think I'd have to go with them

Since froome is an alien that actually already happened in the Vuelta 2011.
Anyway, Vino is the only acceptable choice.

I can't find the relevant photo ...
but in GT sometime in the last 3 years
Ryder Hesjedal rode off the front of the peloton
in what looked like aviator goggles - quite froglike.
That look was sufficiently alien that IMO
he could easily have pulled off a meeting with
little green men and been taken as one of their allies.
Think: "for mash get smash"

It's just so obviously Froome

1. Fight fire with fire.
2. He's on a team that owns the whole sky.
3. He travels to races on the deathstar.

Vino. (maybe 2005 version? or 2010)

Any one-day race.
