I haven't followed the sport for very long but I'm sure there have been some who were worse than incompetent or arrogant. I imagine there have been some who have pushed dangerous drugs on their riders or otherwise endangered their health, safety, and well-being.
I really doubt that or else we would've heard by now, especially in the 90s, I think no rider was ever forced but riders themselves took enormous risks like gianetti, caruso, riis, puttini, ugrumov and basiclaly any swiss rider in the 90s.

Whoever told Paul Martens not to help and chase Rosseler's group because Freire (who already was in a chanceless position) was behind, in the Brabantse Pijl last year. Terrible. Martens would probably have won, as he was the fastest in the sprint.

yeah rabo are complete imbeciles also the freire tactic every year in agr while freire never stands a chance on the cauberg as it's too steep

I'll echo the vote for Roland Berland. Robert Millar was a complex character, but sure as hell Berland would have made a deal if Millar had been French.

Despite having bought up all the talent, Jan Gisbers probably made some big mistakes at PDM along with whoever was the team doctor.
1. Lose Deldago, next year he wins Tour
2. **** off Lemond, next year he wins Tour
3. Poison entire team at Tour

Rabobank's 2007 's de Rooij and Breukink for their treatment of Rasmussen gets my vote for worst DS in cycling

Thats really true.
Beeing involved in the "project" and even supporting it - and then letting him drop like a hot Kartoffel and lie about it afterwards.

Of course their act was somehow right for the people without background, that saw just that bad chicken beeing in....öh....Mexico.

Yep, but at least it wasn't right as far as the courts were considered. How much backpay did The Chicken get out of his wrongful termination suit-- 500,000 Euros, I think?

Who in Lotto's car during the 2008 TdF's Alpe D'Huez stage forgot to tell Evans to stop dicking around with the Schlecks? I nominate him.

He might be the same that the year before told Evans to hold on and not to follow Chicken and BangBang on their way to Plateau de Beille.

Nevertheless, my vote goes to whoever was in the Peugeot's car in the Vuelta 1985 with Robert Millar.

JV goes pretty close with his comments after Flanders about his riders not being strong enough. I was trying to remember the year where JV went head to head with Tchmil, Bartoli and Museeuw on Flemish roads but my memory is too hazy.

The year that Saxo and Casse watched the fool Landis ride up the road must be up there. Why, WHY didn't someone just stamp a bit harder on the pedals?

"The High Life," at least, gives the impression that Berland did try to make a deal but that the Spanish teams ganged up on them anyway. "We were betrayed," "we had an agreement and it was broken" -- he keeps saying stuff like that (without being too specific).

Van Poppel and Gerrie van Gerwen are Dutch, but not Rabobank Dutch ;)

The Van Poppel-Pauwels story was blown way out of proportion by the Belgian media (which story isn't). Pauwels ignored team orders, Van Poppel told him to stop when it didn't matter anymore, and so everybody's right, and everybody's wrong.

Along with the entire Australian nation, I nominate Marc Sergeant.

Oh I know, I was referring to DT with the 2nd line ;)

Right now? JV. Hands down. Just watch the latest "Beyond the Peloton". That team needs an intevention in order to keep him out of the bus.

For me it's got to be Alvaro Pino. Peddling the filth 1992-2010. :D

Sorry, that's probably a Clinic thing, but you didn't say it had to be who was tactically the worst, so I went for who I figured ruined the most reputations and livelihoods. :p

Hands down?

There are a whole host of DS's/Team Bosses in front of him.

Currently, Mauro Gianetti for a whole host or reasons.

What do you think of Sean Yates as a DS?

Seans good for Grand Tour Ds'ing and team Management, but should be kept well away from the one day races and short stage races. For those I prefer Steven de Jongh and Knaven/Portal

Steven seems much closer and seems to have a greater respect from the riders than Sean. Then again, maybe the British riders are more in favour of Sean.

No idea. Probs a low ranking pro tour team or Garmin's very own JV. Best would have to be Bruyneel as he discovered Contador and made Armstrong into GT contender. Hate approach to races that armstrong races as training though

I would probably say Brian Nygard or whoever the DS of Leopard Trek was at the Tour of Flanders.

I thought their tactics with Cancellara going so early were disasterous.
