ok maybe I was wrong about menchov, was 3 months ago so I can't remember exact details of the race. interesting to note that Quintana was there at paris-nice hhhhmmmm... the reason I say that nibali is a better tt'r is because his results in the past are usually better than porte, barring the occasional off day like the final tour tt. I also noticed nibali only lost 5 seconds to froome in the tirreno tt; heck nibali beat froome so that surely counts for something right??. yup true about giro, I was emphasising a point about nibali's climbing compared to porte.

Well, but Porte beat Froome in Criterium International time trial. So I think its fair to say that Porte is a better time trialer than Nibali. I dont consider Uran being a better climber than Porte, you tend to think so just because Uran is from Colombia (the land of pure climbers) and Porte from Australia (the land of track-talents).

in terms of climbing uran has climbed better than porte and nibali also. will try and find some results/data to back this up tho. the criterium international tt was possibly a one off as in previous years nibali and porte have had similar results. again I will have to find data/results to back this up. but I forget to mention porte is younger and is still getting better, nibali won't get much better than he is now

How come? It's not like he's in his lat 30's. He's only 28 and has improved steadily every year. He's just moving into his peak years right now. It's very possible, IMO, that he could continue to improve steadily for a number of years.

I think Porte is wise to stay with Sky.

other than the probable big wage, which makes a big difference at the end of the day, hes in a very successful team and he could no doubt see his improvement before we did via results.

gets to try one week races as leader, wins and podiums. Logical next step is GTs, if not the tour. Strong team (riders and support) around him, so why jump to a smaller team and possibly get hung out to dry if he doesnt immediately succeed? English language and culture fit easily too.

Sky probably see him as a long term fit within their structure and are very happy to have such a strong number two who is loyal. That cant be underestimated.

He probably also enjoys riding on a winning team, thats always good for personal morale.

Porte stayed with SKY because they are the best team and he is friends with many on the team

Simply - why leave???
