Haircut's stock's falling faster than the Dow Jones today.

Seriously, Sky put all their eggs in the basket of a guy who's 31 and has won what, ONE major race?

I've been thinking the same thing for about the last week! Shame really...

Well Wiggins ego did cost Froome the Vuelta win in the end.

If Froome didn't have to work his *** off at the Manzaneda in the red jersey, he would have won the Vuelta. Simple as that

But it's not that simple.

Someone, either Wiggins or Froome, had to chase down Mollema and Rodriguez etc attacks on Manzaneda. Who would you have used?

Stunningly accurate observation regarding Wiggins' age.

Sky need to ask themselves when was the last time a rider of such advanced years won a GT.:rolleyes:

It was a perfectly sensible decision to make Froome work for Wiggins. Wiggins was the team leader, the most proven GC rider of the two. No one would have thought Froome would be able to do what he did on Angliru, the most logical decision was to gamble on Wiggins.

Sky played to win, picking their team leader and sticking with him. True, it didn't work out, but what else could they have done?

Compared to the huge amount Froome had achieved at the top level prior to this Vuelta? Don't get me wrong, Sky should have given both Wiggins and Froome top billing after the TT, but no one, probably not even Froome himself could have believed that he would have ridden so well and so consistently for three weeks. Just as Sky were ultimately wrong to totally back Wiggins, it would also have been wrong to fully back Froome after the TT.

Froome deserved the chance for not continue being a domestique after he gets the vuelta lead in the first half of the vuelta after the TT, 2 MTF and 2 Hill finishes. for me there was more than enough reasons for not use him as a domestique

Try again, youngblood.

Tempting offer Moose.

On reflection I feel compelled to turn it down, No offence intended.

Time travel forward, get the Sports Almanack, then backwards again to change the plan.

A nice plan, but he'd lose loads of time every time he punctured. Do you realise how long it takes to get a fat mechanic out of the back seat of a DeLorean?

I find it very amusing that people who two weeks ago wouldn't have been able to pick Chris Froome out of a 2 person lineup are perfectly happy to say "yeah of course Sky should forego their nominated leader, who currently lies 3rd overall, and throw all their weight behind Froome who has a long history of blowing himself up on climbs".

It was obvious to at least one rider that Froome was stronger than Wiggins before Wiggins cracked

Jakob Fuglsang: "Froome is the favorite"

"FROOME Christopher (183) is the big favorite to win the Vuelta. He looks stronger than WIGGINS Bradley (188) on the climbs", said FUGLSANG Jakob (103), in fifth overall in the Spanish race. "In the last km the legs and the head speak, not the background."

I think Sky did what they had to do and what was correct with the info they had at the time.
I disagree, after the ITT they should have at least have Froome try the next mountainstage for himself. If he lost time doing so, they still had Wiggins there. Now they made sure Froome sacrifisied himself which in the end cost him the time to win the Vuelta.

Until now ;) :p

Sky was absolutely right to set Wiggo as the leader. Froome proved himself this year and next year will be given much more opportunities if stays, possibly leader at Giro. Could have been win but nobody should complain with 2-3 in a GT for chris sake.

That's easy to say in hindsight, but with no one to chase and set up the pace things might have gone worse for both of them. They had to choose. They chose poorly. Happens all the time.

I think Lofkvist is penciled in as the Giro leader.

obviously not based on his strong showing here. (I know he has done some sterling work, not cuaght on camera, but today really was the fisrt real showing of his abiliities this race)

*giggles*

Giro - Lofkvist
TDF - Wiggo
LaV - Froome

then you have a slew of domsetiques /2nd GC candidates to divvy up between those teams.

Heck I'd be tempted to enter the tour with BOTH Wiggo and Froome, and maybe set Uran away for LaV as leader.

Bjarne did not win his first GT until he was 32.
Late Bloomers.
