Wiggins gets dropped cos he is too weak to push a 39?

Wiggo got dropped cos he had to push a 39 as that is all his spare bike had on it after his Di2 battery shorted.

I can't believe the team made such a mistake. Why not have the spare bike running both a compact crank and power meter like Wiggins says lets him climb his best?
