BAT box cost 40$ vs tunel 1000$ or so per hour?
Interesting very interesting device that BAT box (biomechanical aerodynamic technology)
Ok read this http://www.bicycling.com/bikes-gear/bikes-and-gear-features/wind-tunnel-obsolete
What you guys who have tunnel experiences or just everyone think about it.

I like this part:"So far, he says, he’s learned a few interesting things. “The angle of the wind changes far more frequently than we thought,” he says. Minute by minute readings of wind speed and yaw angle that he showed me but asked that I not photograph revealed rapidly shifting conditions that in the space of a couple of kilometers could veer from +10 to -5 degrees wind angle even without gusts or true changes of overall wind direction"
Kool!

And this one: "Also, small changes, like a rider moving his legs side to side, have outsize effects. Ketchell says it’s a given that a rider breaking his aerodynamic position to reach for a water bottle affects aerodynamics, but the BAT box might tell them if there’s a particularly good time to do that – say, below a certain speed when it has less of an impact."
Way to kool!

Nothing new going on there. Some guy(s?) over at nyvelocity.com were/are(?) working on a similar device. Maybe it's the same guys? It's the best way to collect tons of air-related data. No doubt about that.

The box may be only $40. But that's not where the main problem lies. They have lots more work to do on data analysis. The next huge leap is turning the raw data into something that can accurately predict reality. That will take a while.

I wonder if there's a paying customer for the R&D. Knowing the bicycle industry, I'd say no.

I am involved with a company that has a somewhat more sophisticated on bike wind speed and yaw angle measurement device and analysis software.

When combined with the data from a calibrated power meter, we expect to be able to provide wind tunnel quality aerodynamic testing in the field.

We'll bring the wind tunnel to the rider.

Expectations of it being really cheap to deploy or being a consumer item however are unrealistic. It is still in the realm of needing specialist involvement.

It isn't however a replacement for tunnels. More of a complement, and enabling more people access to this level of assessment than is possible with the limited number of wind tunnels presently able to do a good job in this field.

Servus Alex,
excuse my surprise.
In durinarider's midfoot cleat thread just a mouseclick from here you argue against the obvious effects of bio-mxc² position on aerodynamics and condemm every effort to be "too expensive" and here in this thread you turn out to be an expert on it involved in state-of-the-art-testing aerodynamic effects of drag on a rider's performance with a powermeter, a technique SRM-users have been using for more than a decade.
My question: Am I misconcepting something or how am I supposed to bring this to terms?
