Di Luca earns 20 seconds for stage 4, 12 seconds for stage 5, 8 seconds for stage 8, and 20 seconds for stage 10. +60 seconds

Menchov earns 20 seconds for stage 6 and 8 seconds for stage 10. +28

Pellizotti earns 8 seconds for stage 4 and 12 seconds for stage 10. +20

Seems many here were ragging on Levi for his attack on stage 8, pointless, stupid, etc. But when Di Luca makes a similar attack on stage 15, those same folks have buttoned lips. Why the difference?

Over a decade ago, another Italian animated a stage, and several Grand Tours. Marco Pantani. He is dead now, and he doped then. But he sure was exciting to watch.

But Levi is boring - without time bonuses, he would be just 15 seconds off of Menchov and 51 seconds in front of Di Luca. What a snoozer it would have been had RCS decided not to award the top finishers (top dopers? hat tip BigBoat) those precious time bonuses.

Di Lucas attack was just as stupid...Or it was actually more stupid since it came only a few hundred meters from the top of the climb so there was no way he was getting a real gap.

i liketime bonus's on the early spring stages (when a tour follows a normal structure of flat-hills-transition-hills-flat), it makes the first week interesting for the sprinters..

time bonus's on mountain stages? makes a mockery of the whole thing to be honest.. you wanna make ten seconds up over a rival, beat him by ten seconds then.. dont just come across the line a second in front of him for the bonus...
