I think the world tour is a little stupid. i liked the idea(best riders, best races), but think they missed on execution. Looking at the line up some teams send to the giro for example have been a joke. So I thought teams of 15 would be the way to go. That way no matter who you send the line up is strong. With the compulsory races being 4 cobbled classics, ardennes classics, MSR GdL and the 3 GTs. So essentially the old world cup and 3GTs.
Actual team sizes stay the same in each race, other teams can be invited and these teams aren't limited to only these races. This limits their responsibility and so teams and races have more freedom to choose races and teams to suit their goals. In this fashion I'd also only aim at 15 "world tour" teams.
That portion i could have posted in the pro cycling section and asked for thoughts, but I wasa messing around and wanted to see what a team of 15 would look like. So I added up the top 225 riders on cq, divided by 15 teams and ended up with a little over 9000. Limiting the points at 9000 for a budget, I decided to see how for example BMC might look. Ended up with Ballan, Burghardt, Cummings, Evans, Frank, Gilbert, Moinard, Oss, Phinney, Pinotti, Quinziato, Schar, Van Avermaet, Van Garderen, and recruit Visconti. 8662 points.
What do people think of this idea? Have a play with teams and see what you can make out of them.
