Couldn't people explain why they choose a certain rider insted of just vote because that will make this tread kins of lame, I'd say. It would be more interesting if everyone motivated their choice!

That's what this comment section is for.

I voted Gilbert, because I like him as a cyclist. Crazy attacks, contender for both Vlaanderen and Liege, trying desperately every year on the Poggio..

He always seems like a nice laid back guy. If Holland doesn't win (and they won't) I prefer Belgium. Unless it's Leukemans. Or Hoste.

Gilbert. For me, he has the profile, the consistency, the nice teeth and the virtuoso style to wear this jersey. It's almost a mancrush.

Just want to say that, though I'm not really a big fan, Cadel Evans honoured it this year. So I very much want to see it on the shoulders of that kind of quality again.

I just want someone who's good enough to win. Someone who feels right in the rainbow jersey. Please, not a Brochard. This is a Brochard course, anything could happen.

Sagan would certainly be interesting, but I imagine the hype would be unbearable afterwards. Gilbert would be fine.

Freire.

1) I really like him as a cyclist (in a non-homo-erotic way)
2) I like him far more than most of the others (Gilbert the big exception)
3) a 4th rainbow jersey would be awesome
4) most of us can wonder how on earth we forgot about the other 3 all year round
5) last year this time he was considering early retirement, and I would miss him. I'm glad he reconsidered and decided to stay with us a bit longer. Especially in the early season he seemed to have found some phoenix fire again, and I'd love him to walk away from 2010 with Milan Sanremo - WC bookends. To step into 2011, not as a retiree, but as a rainbow jersey wearer, with a great new Spanish colleague on the team too

petty reasons:

6) this week of all weeks, I'd love to see a Spanish rider sticking the best possible 2-fingers up to holier-than-thou McQuaid
7) since some forum Ozzies are quick to kick anything that smells Spanish here, justified or not, this week of all weeks, I would take immense pleasure from picturing their faces when a Spaniard pips the locals on home turf the moment he crosses the line
8) giving Rabo-kit designers a challenge: how to add orange to the rainbow mix without creating an outfit that will replace TV test screen cards world-wide

I would warmly welcome Gilbert too.

A small part of me is even rooting for Cadel, as I think that he has been riding as a transformed rider since winning it last year, and has done the jersey nothing but pride. Maybe more so than many others in the past. But the saner part of me is reminding myself constantly that the forum would become unbearable for all the obvious treble font-size and indulgent exclamation mark reasons. So I will never admit to that, and I'm trying hard to make it go away.

I voted Freire, because a record 4th win for him would be the most important possible result of the race.

Otherwise Gilbert, because he's had the pressure of being the clear favourite for so long, it seems fair.

Cancellara. I love him as a cyclist. His wins in Compiegne '07 and in San Remo '08 + amazing riding in Beijing '08 in Olympic Games were amazing efforts and made me his truly fan.

If Cancellara doesn't win tomorrow, than my wish is - winner who deserve to wear world champion jersey. I don't want another winner like Astarloa in '03.

Being a Brit I've voted Cavendish as I'd love to see him win (or any other brit win for that matter)

Looking at the course my head says Gilbert attacking on one of the climbs on the last lap in the big ring and riding everyone off his wheel to a solo victory.

Edit to say: If a brit doesn't win I'd also quite like to see Kolobnev win having gone so close previously.

I voted Canc. But usually i support sport based on who i dont want to win rather than who i do.
so here it goes

Gilbert - wears an earing
Pozzato- prefer others in his team
Cancellara - I dont know if i do or dont.
Freire - Has 3 wcs, would rather someone else had a chance.
Kolobnev - Russian
Boasson Hagen - mmm wouldnt mind.
Sagan - I dont want a 20 year old winning it. His time will come.
Farrar - wouldnt mind
Cavendish - wouldnt mind

Ideally though i would like someone who hasnt won much to get a victory that will make their career. Evans last year was brilliant as hes been unlucky. Ballan is another example of such a person.

Ballan won Flanders. IMO that's about as high as you can get.

In your category I would like to see Chavanel win.
