I was just re-watching stage 3 of the Tour de Suisse. Leipheimer went over the top in the Soler-Schleck group, but finished 38 seconds behind them. He lost 38 seconds to Frank Schleck and Soler on a descent!

That won him my vote.

(Danielson also lost contact with the group on the descent, but only lost 22 seconds)

What a slander to include Bobby Gesink on this short-list. I'm very glad noone has seen fit to vote for him. dabaideschbi just made 'The List'

It's an abomination than some people still regard him as a ''bad'' descender. One high profile descent that went wrong and you're labelled for life. I could understand if he was in the worst bike-handler category, but not his.

I'm surprised; I thought Leipheimer was a very good descender. He's a former downhill ski racer, and I've descended a fairly difficult section with him before and I thought he was pretty bad *** (not that it means much to anyone else since you don't know me). I've also seen a lot of quotes from his teammates saying that he was their best descender.

I didn't see the Tour de Suisse stage, but the text report made it seem like he was dropped well before the crest.

Libertine was responding to all the half-assed lists being posted. That's why he added a list with totally random cyclists.

It was pretty obvious and he even added a sentence saying they were random.

To see someone crash means that their actually going for it eventhough they may not be good. so basso is slightly worse than frank. andys descending is much better though. Oh ya you forgot a whole load of colombians and other south americans.

no he dropepd on the downhil and he's a really bad downhiller anyway. I thought that was universally well known by now. evans is an mtb guy but also isn't a good downhiller. those things don't always say something.

Erm downhill ski racing says a lot about taking downhills on a bike. Very comparable actually. Descend at Suisse doesn't mean much, probably doesn't want to take risks here.

I remember seeing a tv program about a professional downhill skier and he rode a downhill of a stage that was in the TdF and he found it very comparable to skiing. Obviously there were some differences, but still.

Don't know if Frank is a bad descender.. His technique on the bike is laughable at times resulting in many crashes. But he doesn't seem to be afraid on the bike while going downhill which must be one of the main criteria to describe a bad descender. But it doesn't make him look like Savoldelli either does it...

frank has a condition with his eyes so he can't see certain things or something. that's why he's got horrible bike handlign skils. but if you put someone in front of him that downhills really fast he can follow him. so he's not that bad compared to a basso imo

Well, I must be the exception to the rule. I'm fast and fearless on my skis but when it comes to technical bike descending, I must be the most pathetic guy around. The trophy for this poll should be handed to me without any voting. On the other hand, I'm not shy to sprint (on slight downhill) at about 42mph....go figure.

Why does nobody vote Moncoutié?

When Hushovd was elected best descender in the TdF (2009) ahead of Cancellara and Samuel Sanchez, the DSs also chose the worst descenders and Moncoutié (12 votes) won quite comfortably ahead of Frank Schleck (7) and Soler (6).

He's a horrible descender (mostly because he's afraid on a bike though), he even acknowledges it himself.

I voted for Basso, but there's not much in it with Frank Schleck to be honest. I don't think Menchov is as bad as them, but when he's bad he's bad in a spectacular way.

Sadly have to agree on Tony Martin. He doesn't shine on descents. :(
