Menchov should be very disappointed. If they had been invited to the tour, and he brought his Giro-winning form, this would have been his best shot at a TdF victory ever. I'm not saying that he would have won it, but in top form he would have been up there with the Schlecks and Evans.

Yeah. The Tour would have been much better without Europcar.

What about saur then ( 0r AG2R )

Ag2R couldn't have been uninvited because they are protour, have a rider in the top ten and another in top 20, have 3rd place in the team classification, have the highest placed Giro survivor other than Contador.

Saur however...

Sastre has done nothing but wait for retirement since he got miraculously lucky in 2008.

Sastre still had a good season in 2009. He won 2 mountain stages and was third in the general classification (after Di Luca disqualification). He still did the Tour, but was only 16th in the GC. 2010 wasn't that bad either. He did the three grand tours and was 8th in the Giro, 20th in the Tour and 8th in the Vuelta. Not bad, I think.

I believe the management of Rabo made a failure by not prolonging Menchov's contract. Gesink has only finished in 2 GT's. It would have been much better for him two stay second man for a couple of years.

It's a shame Menchov isn't getting the chance to ride this. If he hadn't crashed in the first week, he might be about where Basso is at this point, but he'd have aTT up his sleeve. I'm sure he'd be highly motivated: the Tour's obv. the only thing left for him to win. Agree that there are a lot of riders we're missing at this point.

Exactly Preudhomme should be ashamed

Exactly what I was going to say here.

yeah in hindsight Saur hasn't really shown they deserved the invite

Jérôme Coppel 17th overall and 4th for white jersey

They are 4th from last place in team competition, which isn't too bad considering. Ahead of HTC for example.

Almost every break has a Saur rider in it.

And after all, it is the Tour de FRANCE so it's normal that French teams have a priority in the selection process. Saur may not be a top level team but they are anything but undeserving of their invitation.

It would be even more fun with both Nibali and Scarponi in:p

I think the parcours at the tour would have suited Nibali extremely well. I think he would have been Cadel's biggest challenger if he rode.
