WTF Giro promotions around the world

Cavendish was in London on Tuesdayto help promote the Giro d'Italia, the first of the season's grand tours, to which he will return in May after a year's absence.

The Giro was promoting itself around London and i missed it:mad:

The legendary trophy was apparently on display. WTF though, since when do they promote themselves worldwide.

And i sure hope none of our British posters knew about this and decided NOT to make a thread about it

Yeah, I saw a pic somewhere of Cavendish with that nice looking trophy and I was like "wtf, how did he get a Giro trophy?"

Now I know why.

+ points for Cav. He really cares for other things than the Tour, very ambitious goals this season.

Only with Kimmage invited, what did they think was going to happen? Scenestealing waste of money! :D

i dunno who this kimmage person is tbh heard his name before bet never bothered much with it cus by reading some quotes of him he doesn't look like something worth of my time :p

Yeah, I saw about this yesterday. Two interesting points came out:

1. Zomegnan wants the Giro to start in Britain at some point (yes please! Giro podium women in the flesh.... mmmmm..... must make sure Mrs Rat is visiting her folks in France on those days so I can stalk them in peace).

2. Cav fought Ricco at an Italian restaurant during the 2009 giro. Probably just shouting, but even so, good work.

I was just thinking about how Giro should start in Britain.

Hope its backup for the Washington plan in which case Giro 2012 in London:D Actually since its olympics 2012, better leave it till 13 or 14.

Would be amazing. The Tour is one thing but i would really like to see what the media would say and how many people would start.

Oh and i dont think they fly the podium girls over from Italy;)

they'll just use a couple of cheap tarts from essex to give it a "local flavour"...

would be nice if there was a non-media event where us joe publics could go.
I prefer the Giro over the Tour

Probably, they used Dutch girls last year, when they were in Holland and a Dutch girl to be the overall face of the giro last year

Pah! Why does everything have to be in London?

I would suggest South Wales for two reasons.

There's strong historical links to Italy, with lots of Italians migrating to South Wales in the 19th and 20th centuries. Zomegnan likes history.

There's some hills. Zomegnan likes hills.

You need the prologue in a city, a big one, and London is

a The biggest city
b the closest to italy
c the capital so right for a first visit. Choosing Manchester or Birmingham would disrespect the race. Just like the commonwealth games went to Manchester and the Olympics went to London.

d You dont want to be spending days in the country and you dont want too much time away from Italy, which is what doing laps of the Welsh hills would bring you

I suppose it could work if you had a stage Manchester to Brum and Brum to London, then itt the third day in the capital and flight back to Italy.

You cant really go into the capital without having a tt. But then if the race starts on Sat that would be a Monday. and since the first race back in Italy is a team time trial, 2 tts in 2 race days, i dont know.

Maybe stage 1 Cardiff to London. Stage 2 London tt. Stage 3 London to wherever (has to have an airport).

day 4 rest day.

Well the next day there was an interview with Cavendish in the Metro, not sure if I've ever seen cycling in the Metro. That is why the Giro is touring venues promoting it.

Christ, the only time i've seen it in there is when Cav wins a sprint in the Tour, and that's 8 lines at most. There was a big piece on Team Sky at the start of last season to be fair, not much else.

Odd really, given the amount that paper gives up to Boris and his cycling push.

Still, if Zomegan want's to bring the Giro to London, he'll be even more of a route planning god. \:D/ \:D/ \:D/ \:D/
