Probably it was some severe injury.Didn't look good. Hopefully PR still in the works, although no chance any more to ride it 100% healthy.
I wouldn't be surprised if he's been out for a while.

Season over.Multiple broken bones according to reports.
And probably no Giro.Broken collarbone. No Ronde, no Roubaix.
Crap!
I don't think a broken collarbone takes 8 months to heal.Season over.
It wouldn't surprise me if we are going to see Van aert in the Tour with Vingegaard. And probably no Giro.

Focus on Olympics seems like a plan.
I suspect he will come back refocused like mad. Angry comeback destructionThis may sound way out of bounds, but I think there is a chance he will retire after this. The mental strain he has had to get to this point, and the mental strain of the expectations he has on him, and the mental strain of the doubters and people who dislike him has always affected him. In a time where your closest rival is a man who (as much as I hate to admit it), is physically more gifted in the races Wout cherishes most, I can see him coming to a place where he doesn't think it's worth it anymore. I believe for sure, that thought will cross his mind.
My hope is that this adversity forges a Wout who will come back and triumph. I would not respect him any less if it doesn't.
It will cross his mind, but I don't think he will give up. For him to walk away now is to live with regrets for the rest of his life. This may sound way out of bounds, but I think there is a chance he will retire after this. I hope that you are right. I just think a man with a family, who has poured so much into his profession, the disappointment of this will be very mentally straining. No way he'll retire. Forsure it'll take character to come back, but that's character Wout has!
Phyiscally, sure. It has done wonders for Van der Poel. Van Aert, however, has a wife and two kids. Very much doubt it would do good in regards to the mental health.would maybe living away from Belgium help him?
If you know anything about Wout van Aert, you know that he won't give up after this. His main strength is his mentality. Fighting against a more physically gifted rival has taught him this. And it's not like this is a Chris Froome or Egan Bernal type of injury, where it's the question whether he can even ride his bike again. This may sound way out of bounds, but I think there is a chance he will retire after this.
