narrow pulse rate range as one ages

Hi just read about a high resting rate. My maximum pulse is 165 and it doesn't get much below 60 at rest. I am 51 years old and in in a return to competition I am at the maximum right from the word go (when I was 18-20y.old the max pulse rate was over 200) so I get dropped in my age group...

    Pedals: Look vrs Shimano SL

I had look 396 and the bearings after 10 years are still smooth, but the stack height got higher with the new cleats. I found ultegra too fixed, and as I get older i am having knee troubles. Then i got Time Impact... the platform is huge! the stack minimal, and I just feel the transfer in...

    Brake pads

need some new brake pads. have heard that the shimano B 55 C2 (dura ace) compounds faded through heat and were not that good in the wet- Is the C3 much better? what about techstop 23HP blue? some say they are REALLY good (comparible with swissstop salmon) and cheep too! what about cork? the...

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

Yes this would seem to be the most important thing.... a good fit. I am having a lot of trouble finding a comfortable firm fit. 2 LBShops, 12 helmets... I have a Bell of 2003 vintage which fits, but on hot days is tooo hot, but the latest have no padding where contact with my skull is, and...

latex inner tubes 18mm on a 23 tyre

long time since I repaired or rode tubulars. thanks for the info. so giving them a regular talc dusting is the idea... yeah 20gms isn't worth worrying about. silly really. but good to be reminded that one must be careful. I used to have blow outs on my Clement silks, but the silk casing were...

latex inner tubes 18mm on a 23 tyre

Sorry to hear it! but that is just circumstancial, ( did you test a butyl on the same hill, same heat, etc... ) don't mean to rub salt on the wounds! and Michelin is by far the best. butyl is stiffer, no doubt, but all tubulars use latex, and the latex tubes are very thin. regards

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

Bobsworth Thank you! Finally someone who is using their ability to reason! are you a lawyer? I agree that the forehead is the problem area for sweating. I agree that the industry hasn't really advanced the product..... I do think polystyrene is good for a low cost one hit use. But why should I...

latex inner tubes 18mm on a 23 tyre

I have just bought a pair of Michelin aircom latex tubes, and the damping quality is really noticable. Down hill is superb!. going up hill though they flex a lot more especially on the front wheel..... So i have the 'feeling' they are slow when more weight is applied but that might be deceiving...

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

yes yes yes to all said. but I must say I am not too happy about the thin strips of hard foam that cradle my head. a two layer density would be more reasuring, but hey, mine did the job. lets close this thread???

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

I didn't see the video and consider THAT bad taste. Did you know him personally? thanks for the IMO actually this thread is gong on under the the Pro Racing thread as I thought more would respond. I want to know if there is sufficient tests doner to make a wise choice on a new Helmet

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

I am not asking for absurd solutions, but a general discussion on the construction of the helmets and who independently tests them. I need a new Helmet, but I am not so sure of these new ones. my helmet had carbon... does it run under the plastic (I don't think so) and what might be the trade...

helmets: too tight, thin, and unsafe?

helmets Actually the worst injuries I have had have been at moderate speeds 25-30kph i haven't seen the video of W.W. and I don't want to! but I have been feeling concerned about the reduction in mass of the polystyrene core for some time. good point about the space but there is typically...
