    Dan Martin discussion thread

Re: Kristoff said more or less the same thing. Roughly translated from memory: "I'm totally out of it. Don't expect anything from me on the last stage. Actually, the whole team is a bit out of it, and we think we know why." He did not want to go into more details.

Tour de France 2019 stage 14: Tarbes - Tourmalet 117 km

In the TT Alaphillippe produced more watts/kg than Thomas in a sustained aerobic effort (I assume that JA weighs less than GT). Based on that alone, Alaphillippe should win the tour. He might lose it due having spent more energy in the previous days or not having prepared for altitude/GC racing...

    2016 TdF, Stage 17: Bern → Finhaut-Emosson (185km)

The finish reminds me of stage 17 in 2009. That day was entertaining imo, and the timegaps were large. There is at least potential here.

2014 Tour de France, Stage 5: Ypres – Arenberg Porte du Hainaut: 156km

Hi, and welcome to the forum. Your question is answered quite thoroughly in the previous 20 pages of this thread. Start at the beginning, the first post has pictures.

    Lesser known races results 2014

You can't corner the Horner :D

    2013 Vuelta a España, Stage 18: Burgos-Peña Cabarga (186.5 km)

I'm pretty sure you can relax. Cancellara will not win this. First, the climb is way too long for him to keep up with the GC guys. Second, he is no longer in the race. As for Cancellara chasing down Horner so Purito can't win the stage...  Edit: I see all_in beat me to it.

2013 Vuelta a España, Stage 14: Bagá → Andorra. Collada de la Gallina (155.7 Km)

Rain during mountain stages might make the racing more interesting, but also means crappy TV. If a climb is raced, but there is noone there to see it....

    2013 Vuelta a España, Stage 10: Torredelcampo → Alto Hazallanas (186,8 km)

I see the Vuelta as a two-horse race now. Horner and Nibali, with Papy as the favourite. Roche is not a good enough climber. Basso and Pinot are too far back already. Valverde and Rodriguez did the TdF and will suffer for that as the race goes on.

    2013 Vuelta a España, Stage 10: Torredelcampo → Alto Hazallanas (186,8 km)

Let's say Valverde attacks on the Monachil and catches him teammate over the top of that climb. Then the teammate will pace him as long as he can, at least to the bottom of the final climb. This is the ideal scenario.

    2013 Vuelta a España, Stage 6: Guijuelo → Cáceres (175 km)

Cancellara tries to win sprints where he thinks he has a realistic chance. With the rather thin sprinting field present here, it is only logical to go for it. I was cheering for TM the whole way, but blaming someone for trying to win is not rational.

    ENECO Tour(WT), 12th-18th August 2013

I think most of the criticism of earlier years was well deserved. The course just wasn't hard enough to make for good racing. This year there are some hard stages, and personally I think the race has been very good.

2013 Tour de Suisse, Stage 2: Quinto - Crans Montana 160Km

I just saw a recording and noticed the wind as well. Hesjedal must have known that attacking early on that climb was not the best option for gaining time. It makes me think he just wanted to test himself and go really deep to check that his health problems were over.

    Serebryakov tests positive

So a new test, eh.. I guess this explains why DiLuca said he was "surprised" :D

    2012 Vuelta a España: Stage 2: Pamplona → Viana (181.4km)
