if canc was in the front and TM was chasing, he would have caught within 500 m, and set meersman for the win.

You do know that its not Tony Martin who numerous times has held off a chasing peleton inside the last couple of KM's??

Fabian has done so a lot of times. Even if he has never tried riding solo for 170k, he is still a champ when it comes to cheating the sprinters.

I dont get why people hates a rider who tries to win???

It´s like saying Canc don´t know how to pedal a bike, how smart you think that is?

All i was saying is that OPQS were not working to bring down the gap today. if the roles of fab and tm were reversed today, then Cancellara would have been eaten by the pack well before the final km.

Its not disrespect towards Cancellara(i like him a lot). It is just respect towards the combined efforts of OPQS and OGE in preceding stages; and total frustration towards lotto and argos.

Ride of the year right there by Tony Martin. Very smart to save some energy and let the peloton get closer, to make them think that they had control, before he turned on the turbo in the final 10k.

Of course it is fine to try to win and Cancellara had a right to go when he did. However, in a normal flat sprint stage, he wouldn't be anywhere near the front at that point of the race and therefore wouldn't even have had the opportunity to make a move. It is this fact that makes it feel like the move was specifically directed at Martin.

EDIT: This, and the fact that Cancellara sprinted from so far out, making it all the more likely that he would be passed before the line.

What is the deal between those two? Is Canc just jealous? Or is there more?
No way that he was trying to win. With a sprint of 400m?

who won this anyway>?

My thoughts exactly. Nice win for Morkov, Have liked him ever since the 2012 Tour.

As far as Cancellara's move and catching Martin, it's a bike race, and cancellara was making his bid to win same as Martin was. It didn't work out for either of them. It's racing, got to move on. And at least both of them got some training for worlds in. Would have been cool to see Martin survive, but that's just bike racing.

Cance is a TT engine, going to the front and going all out is his best chance to win a sprint. He has no chance if he waits for 200 meters, not explosive enough. Best to go early for him when contesting a sprint.

Martin was great, but Argos and company were a bit embarrassing. He may be by far the best TT rider currently, but he was in a solo break for 165k and yet they couldn't close the last part of the gap.

This too. It was painful seeing Martin caught so close to the line, but he really should have been caught with 5-10 km to go.

If Cancellara was always trying to win sprints, I wouldn't blame him. IT WAS PURE JEALOUSY. You don't attack a fellow world class TTer. Period. If anything, he should root for Martin.

Cancellara was making his bid for the win, that's all. It wasn't jealousy in any sense of the word. And Cancellara isn't on the same team as Martin, it's a bike race. In real racing there are no gifts. If your not suppose to attack a fellow TTer, then are climbers not suppose to attack each other? Sprinters not suppose to sprint against each other. TTers compete in the time trial, what makes competing on the road any different?

So you seriously expect the rest of the peleton to just let Cance go the next time he is in front of the peleton at a bunch sprint finish? Or are you really just so ****ed because it wasnt the "right" guy who won the stage, that you start writing your own rules about who is allowed to win and who is not?

Cancellara tries to win sprints where he thinks he has a realistic chance. With the rather thin sprinting field present here, it is only logical to go for it.
I was cheering for TM the whole way, but blaming someone for trying to win is not rational.

He has competed in messy sprints soooo many times. Several times in the Tour, I remember he even once did a straight sprint in the Giro and came 3rd.

I have never seen Cancellara ride to harm others, but only to win.
