Jay I believe the authors didn't realize that the Vector pedals would correctly calculate the power when ridden in a heel down position. I also believe that they had too much faith in the Kickr's accuracy. They proved themselves too uninformed to allow me any faith in their work. YMMV Hugh

Re: Re: Noel, If the left leg's glutes were fired maximally when it's in the position shown in the picture, the force would be directed in the same direction as my yellow arrow which would act to try to spin the cranks backwards not propel them forward.

Re: Re: Please explain how anything to do with Tug of War has to do with this picture. I can see massive activation of the quads in this position would provide a mostly tangential application of force but for the life of me not the glutes.

Re: Re: Noel, How in the world could one use the glutes to produce maximal torque at the the 12 o'clock position? The glutes extend the leg to make it more inline with the torso. What you're suggesting is utter nonsense. Hugh

So you're using a power meter and actually measuring your power? How's your mean maximal power at 1 minute, 5 minutes, 20 minutes and one hour compare to the longer cranks? Thanks, Hugh

SC, I'm interested in how you've modified your gearing to deal with the reduction in effective leverage of the system by ~ 29%. You mention riding up mountain passes seated so I'm expecting a really large rear cassette cog. Did you move to a mountain bike cassette? Thanks, Hugh

Re: Re: Absolutely, but I'd bet Noel really isn't applying power in the manner he envisions. It would be an easy "step1" just to see whether he's actually doing what he thinks he's doing. If he's not actually doing what he contends in terms of force application, the whole "metabolic cost"...
