    ESPN = Idiots

This would be a waste of time. ESPN knows who it's target market is, and it's not cyclists, and it's not people who like cyclists. Remember when Kornheiser advocated running over cyclists! Discussions with "senior management" relative to the gravity of such an incitement was not simply...

    Power training

I can't imagine trying to do a 5% climb at cadence of 40, that would take a lot of strength. I would suggest staying with the cadence with which you are most comfortable over the duration. You will probably find it's closer to 90 than 40

Study which show us that training with PM does not make you faster

Oh this is all too funny. Isn't this phrase an oxymoron? Thanks for the laugh!

    Carbon Clinchers

I prefer the carbon rims because they do absorb road shock so much better than the typical stiff alloy rim. ( I have 6 different alloy wheels sets, including a pair of the legendary bombproof Ksyrium SL wheels) My wife and I both ride Reynolds Attack carbon clinchers for training. I have...

    Rotor Q-Rings, Gaining Acceptance ?

Getting used to them was no problem. I have tried moving to different positions in both directions and after doing some power tests moved back to #3. I would say however it may entirely be the placebo effect here because I was more comfortable with the original setting.

    Rotor Q-Rings, Gaining Acceptance ?

I probably have 15,000 - 18,000 on my q-rings (have them on all my bikes) and I love them. Theoretically they will help with power output because they help getting through the "dead spot". But I don't have analytical measurements to substantiate that position. I will tell you that...

    Rotor Rings

Don't do it. If you do, you will hate round rings later on. You will feel compelled to spend money and purchase them. After a recommendation by a couple of cat 1 teammates, I tried them and now I love them. have them on all my bikes. They do a great job of compensating for poor...

Let's discuss crank length, my opinion - shorter is better

John Cobb isn't too far from me, and yes, he has some very specific thoughts regarding crank length. I've seen him put a 6'5" guy on 170's. But I can't believe Tape hasn't jumped in on this.....he's got a study that says unless you're way off, then crank length has no big effect.

    PowerCranks - The Discussion

And the best news of all regarding this stuff. I don't have to borrow (or purchase ) power cranks or worry about my technique anymore. Geesh.....I hate eating crow. But I get to do it so often that I even found a website for how to properly prepare crow!

    PowerCranks - The Discussion

I now see where our disconnect in this discussion exists. I'm considering this topic from a purely physics perspective relative to the forces applied to the pedals. I'm not looking at this from the biomechanical aspect which is the primary influence on performance. I see they do come to...

    PowerCranks - The Discussion

Oops! That's not what I said. Go back and read my post again. I was being sarcastic because the powercranks, like your drills, conceptually bring additional muscles in to play (one leg vs two). If you do any sort of high stress work with one set of muscles instead of two, your power and...

    PowerCranks - The Discussion

You're kidding right! Everyone knows aerobic limits are biochemical, but that is a different discussion. Of course better technique increases power and endurance. If it didn't, then you could do just as well with one leg as you do with two. You don't have to read power profiles or...

1 hr max session- what to do?

Tapeworm hit it right on. Doesn't matter if you're working for speed, strength or endurance.

    PowerCranks - The Discussion

All very interesting comments. Some valid opinions, some not. I borrowed a set from a friend a few years ago and will continue to do so as often as I can. (they are expensive) Basically I use them on the trainer in the winter. For me they are a great help with technique. If you don't...
