    Origins of Cyclo-Cross

Did you see the part where the head of finance passed the recent recipient of a kidney transplant? That's not fair. Then you have the reporter for the Chronicle battling it out with the finance lad and the retired cheese worker. RAF guy should have taken an early leave to train. Poor guy just...

Thanks for asking! I'll take every opportunity to plug the band The Delgados to anyone who cares to listen. The Delgados are, in my opinion, an underrated band from Scotland who arrived on the scene in the mid-90's alongside awesome bands like Mogwai and Arab Strap. Although the band's name is...

The "I'm not watching it" thread

I'm not watching NHL. It's not part of my cable subscription.

Guess who raced in the cleanest sport in the world.

It takes a certain amount of hubris to create teams like Highroad and Sky on the notion that all the riders are clean, when pretty much anyone paying attention knows that was not the case. It's a great marketing ploy that just goes to show no one really cares who is riding PED-free. It's fun to...

Guess who raced in the cleanest sport in the world.

If you said Mark Cavendish, you are right! Those are the claims Mark made in an interview promoting his book (the name of which escapes me). According to Mark, he could not have accomplished his achievements if he raced during the "dark era" that included Lance Armstrong -- whom he said was...

Is Alessandro De Marchi a Hero?

he-ro -- a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Derek Gee: I don't know if you read comments on this forum, but if you do, kudos, good sir. Fight the bogus lawsuit against you and win.

    Is UAE Over the Top?

Not as long as there's enough money to keep going around.

    Is UAE Over the Top?

How long do you think? The Pharmstrong train was derailed only after a disgruntled passenger who was kicked off started making a ruckus. Ripper says there's no incentive for others to speak up due to repercussions, and I completely agree. As long as people are making coin, there's no need to...

    Is UAE Over the Top?

Apparently Isaac del Toro lost the wheel because he had stomach problems since arriving in Rwanda seven days ago. That's gotta hurt. Yet he managed to drop everyone and hitch a ride with Pogi-motocar after 160 km's of racing. I hope he enjoyed the spectacle before going poopy in his pants...

    Is UAE Over the Top?

It's kinda fun when you see it as comedy. Pogacar launching from 100 km and taking his side-kicks along for a ride before bidding them farewell is funny, but maybe that's just me. Guy should have charged them for taking a tour around the city before dropping them off at their destination.

Fair enough. But again, we're straying from the point about doping.

    Is UAE Over the Top?

Sure, some riders earn a handsome salary; that is not in dispute. But those salaries dwarf those of domestiques -- i.e. pack fillers. I live in Canada, so I'll use a hockey analogy. A fourth line player on an NHL team makes more money in a season than pretty much the entire team of domestiques...

    Is UAE Over the Top?

del Toro is a kid who came out of nowhere, and Wellens is an old workhorse. Salaries for professional cyclists are a mere pittance compared those in big-time sports. If anything, salary caps need to be assessed from the bottom up. Introducing a salary cap in a non-unionized sport would lower the...
