No surprise if you saw stage one where Groenewegen could not hold the wheel of his leadout.

It was good to see that Mezgec back in form because he didn't do the job in stage 3,4,5. Anyway, he should be fine now that he has got back his racing legs.

You should have heard his pre-race interview where he stated he was dreading the stage.

I am interested in how Groenewegen performs today. He could not hold the wheel of his lead-out Stewart and was indirectly responsible for the crash.

Giro d'Italia Giro d’Italia 2024, Stage 6, Torre del Lago Puccini (Viareggio) – Rapolano Terme, 180km

This should be a nailed on break stage as the GC riders will save their bikkies for the ITT.

Lesser Known Road Racing for Women Thread

A strange race for two reason. Ludwig has 25 seconds with 10kms to go with multiple riders from Lidl and Movistar not working together. these two teams work together and they bring back Ludwig. Secondly, I dont understand why some of the teams are not racing today but yet doing Itzulia in 2 days.

Poor season for Jayco continues. Lead out rider Stewart brought down by Liepins. Luckily, Groenewegen avoided the crash but that was the end of his sprint.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 5, Genova-Lucca, 178 km

Alpecin got that stage wrong - Why attack a climb with over 100kms to go and bring back the break? All you do is open yourself to another break. Much easier to control the break all day and you have a guaranteed sprint finish.

He made similar claims in the team video, although he toned down the language.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 5, Genova-Lucca, 178 km

Multiple teams shou;d try to break up the race in the testing start and ensure there is a strong break which could go all the way.

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 4 Acqui Terme-Andora, 190 km

Ewan mentioned split priorities but he was referring to riders who support him in the final which is primarily Mezgec, Walscheid and Hepburn as the rest of the team are not part of a sprint train.. Anyway the Jayco team was changed at the last minute for Giro. Dunbar was not going to the Giro...

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024, Stage 4 Acqui Terme-Andora, 190 km

Ewan specifically requested Mezgec join his team at the last minute. This created a problem because Mezgec was preparing for the TDF and the Vuelta and I suspect is underdone. Meza has not been able to place Ewan in position in the last km in the two sprint stages. In saying that, I doubt Ewan...

    Giro d'Italia Giro d‘Italia 2024 Stage 3, Novara-Fossano, 166 km

Dunbar is a worry - He crashed at Valenciana and withdrew with minor injuries. Then he was a last minute addition at the UAE Tour and was unlucky to be crashed into after waiting behind the mass crash in the last 200 metres of stage.. It was reported that he broke his hand, but in fact it was a...
