The moment Paul Magnier wanted to go, Waerenskjold closed the door on him while going passed the INEOS rider. Not in a bad way, sprint was fair.
And even if that didn't happen, Magnier wouldn't have passed him.

Massive 14 points for this win!

Wærenskjold has won in Saudi Tour the last two years, so today is actually the season he's waited the longest to win a bike race since 2022. Also last year Uno-X (Kristoff and THJ) were good in Mallorca and Wærenskjold won in Saudi Tour and Tiller was third in a Besseges stage as well, so I dont think they were that slow to start last season (but then THJ crashed) even if riders like Cort and Leknessund was generally invisible in the first part of the season.

But with the 3 guys top 10 in Saudi Tour, Blikra and Hoelgaards top results on Mallorca and Wærenskjold today at least it seems like they have many guys in very good form already.

Yes, 2 years ago they had 3 points in the first week (or rather 4th week of the year), last year was a bit better in Mallorca and Saudi so they got 217 points but this year they smashed that with 473 points in the first week.

The interesting thing is to see what happens in February and March. Those months have been fairly slow for them relative to the rest of the year. In 2023 they averaged 106 points in the next 8 weeks and last year that only rose to 112 points in those weeks. Compare that to their average for the whole year which was 235 points per week. In their best period last year they averaged 377 points per week.

I was impressed by how Waerenskjold navigated the sprint today. As someone who has normally not been too comfortable in the peloton and often chooses to sit at the back of any group he's in he managed to stay close to the front very well today and launching a solo sprint without any help from his team. He has said he will be taking on more of the sprinter role this year so perhaps this win is just the first of many.

Riders stopping a race again. Apparently another car on the road, one that went out his driveway 30 meters in front of the peloton (I have no idea why people think this can be prevented?) Certain WT teams do not want to restart.

EDIT: I've seen different stories about the car, also one where it went up a roundabout which would be worse, but it's quite funny cause why are these teams acting like it isn't like that on those French races every year? Don't go there ffs.
