Even if the peloton have ridden full gas, they wouldn't have a chance. The top favourites would still look to each other after the attacks.

They would never catch Evenepoel because they went on the limit on that climb unlike Remco that went at his own pace saving a bit for the end.

Seems that Vlasov will manage to get second great Ardennes for him.

Pogi waited for RAF exactly like the others when he won.

This would be the longest solo attack in quite some time I think.
Yes, thats exactly my point. The chasers waited for the much easier hill just after Faucons, Pogacar at least would have went for it there - most likely.

I don’t know, when they paused on the last climb is what cost any chance they had, if they went all in then they might have had a chance.

There was no reason for the favourites not to work together except for a collective case of Valverde brain. If these people raced a bit more like the cobbles specialists Evenepoel is not winning. And then there's the coffee break up the steep part of RaF too.

I can only assume the peloton did very little partly due to the number of leaders who aren't used to that position in this sort of race combined with the presence of WVA. Movistar should know better though, and they controlled things effectively aside from the point when it really mattered.

Given how close they came, I think they had a decent chance of catching him if they rode full gas there.

I wonder if the chasers could have dropped WVA..

Martinez, Vlasov and Teuns who looked like the strongest climbers should have opened earlier.
