Ugh. That sounds absolutely disgusting. Of course, as far as I'm concerned mayo should be banned worldwide as a toxic substance. :p

I was always a Canc fan but at some point last year it seemed all he ever did was irritate me and I was ready to root against him this year but after the last few weeks, I'm back to being a fan.

There's always chocolate, beer and Belgian waffles if you don't like "French" fries with mayo :p

I never really annoyed me on Cancellara, but his recent interviews really do.

If Belgium is famous for something it's mayonnaise with (French) Fries.

Whenever I think of what Belgium is famous for, there's a very funny (and not complimentary) quote from the film 'In Bruges' that comes to my mind. I won't repeat it here.

I always hold beer and waffles above the frites+mayo on the Belgium icons league, maybe because I was eating that combo long before I knew the Belgians did it (just not with the huge dollops of mayo they have)

I think Austria has taken over that mantle.

I liked Bruges. Now Brussels, that is a s***hole.

reading the CN article on Cancellara's threat to his P-R bid, makes me wonder if he has even considered the possibility of a mechanical problem, a flat tire, a possible weather adversity or a conspiracy between teams to hold him off......

I like him, but arrogance isn't something that I praise on a rider...

Cancellara is saying that everybody is riding against him. Well that's just what happened to Boonen the last 5 years. He have to deal with it as the top favourite .

The irony of that film was that even though Colin Farrell consistently called Bruges a ****hole throughout the film, it was possibly the best advert for Bruges going. A fairytale town. Personally, I've never been. Perhaps for RVV next year. Lots of alcoves, I hear.

Anyway, I'm off topic. I'll be rooting for my hometown boy, the Big G, or Geraint Tommeke, as the Flandrians will one day call him.

I am sure this has been mentioned already - but it is fantastic to see Cancellara come up fighting from RVV in the CN article. That kind of talk really takes some balls/confidence.

He will win P-R I am pretty certain, he just wont attack from so far out, and will eat more before/while he attacks.

(Although I dont think he bonked at RVV, I think he got close to it, but realised and backed off on the Mur, then was a bit surprised at how quick Gilbert et al were coming up behind, but had backed off before he was too far gone - when you really bonk you dont attack like he did in the last 5km you crawl home 10 minutes down)

Sometimes when you lose, you win, and if you want to win, you have to risk losing. And other fortune cookie platitudes...

:\ You are no longer welcome at Trampies. Malt vinegar and mayonnaise are applied to everything during the spring classics--even the other spectators.

EDIT: And ESPECIALLY frieten.

this story still makes me giggle

anyway i want to see how well fabian will do it now that its every1 vs him(now that they know they can beat him if they gang up on him people will prolly chase right away after he takes off). boonen was able to win a few times even when it was every1 vs him. we also have to think about how good will boonen do now that he has a "bit" more freedom

last year made me hate the canc.

I liked how he rode flanders tho.
i like that he wants to win big, but he is stupid if he thinks teams aren't going to try and bring him back. In reality he is crying that his big attack didn't get him the win, like for some reason riders should just accept his magnificent attack and give up. OMG teams chased you in cycling.... NO WAY? It doesn't work like that, he isn't unique in this manner, just thick.
I disliked some of his comments, but some made me laugh too.

ps: mayo = god of sauces !

I disagree he was foolish. His goal was not just to win, it was to win big - kind of the way Barcelona plays as opposed to Chelsea or so. If the result is all that counts for you, then ok, maybe he made a bad call, but when I watch cycling I want to be entertained, so I'm giving style points as well. ;)

the attack is fine, the fact he is whining that teams rode against a guy attacking isn't fine. That is cycling.

for this particular gladiator (his attitude towards his rivals, not skill, nor his desire to win in style- I appreciate these 2 attributes) =

Of course, but I don't think anyone outside of Belgium had ever heard of the expression "in de fritten rijden"... I know I didn't. And I'm quite fluent in Dutch.

I never heard of this either. Sounds like a made-up expression to me.

So, dissing my town, are you? :) Have you been reading my posts in the Cities thread?

You should get to know Brussels a bit better and then see if that still holds true. I'm thinking it won't. :)

Sort of back on topic, I actually went to a gig in Roubaix once, in an old factory. If you like that industrial aesthetic and going to bars where the beer comes with a free bowl of threatening looks, it's a cool place! :)

Personally I find a nail-biting final much more entertaining than watching a 40km TT.

absolutely. And a lot of people were saying that before flanders. The fact of the matter is a lot of people were disappointed with PR last year.

A lot of people are also saying spartacus made flanders-which yes he did-but it was the chase by bmc and the events when he got caught which really made flanders a standout edition. I highly the doubt Ronde would have got nearly as much praise if he didn't cramp and simply tt'd to the end. The finale was special.

Bring on another 50 men VS the gladiator as far as I'm concerned. All for a "big win", as long as the others go down fighting too.

+1. PR last year was over with 60km to go. When Canc rode Leukemans off his wheel like that, I was depressed beyond pills.

This year so far, the most boring stuff I've seen was the latter bits of Paris-Nice. Nobody did anything to upset HTC-Martin. I didn't have a problem at all with him winning, it's just that nobody tried to make it a proper race.

(apologies for the continued off-topic)

I spent a long weekend there a few years ago and found it to be a miserable place! It was grey/wet, streets had dog **** on them, walking to the EU parliament was like walking through a building site, the EU parliament itself is like a 1960's concrete school and the park next to it was muddy with little grass... Maybe I didn't see it at the best time or go to the right places... Tell you what, next time I'm in the area I'll bring a bike and you can show me the good places!

Based on his performance at the Scheldeprijs I think it's pretty clear that Cavendish is now the main favourite for Paris-Roubaix.

Weylandt likely to be out after his crash in the Scheldeprijs? WOuld be another blow to Canc's squad after losing Wagner. There isn't a big selection of replacements, my guess would be Vigano or Clarke
