If Bernal has the right form and doesn't lose any time on the first 6 stages (which is possible with the wind), he'll win the GC. Sivakov & Hindley to be the best of the rest.

Very boring route btw. 6 flat stages and 3 mountain stages, don't know why that didn't put in 1 or 2 hilly stages or a TT.

The first 3 looks tricky - and puncheur made.
And nothing wrong the last 3 (for a 1-week+ race)

But how the h**l could they not shake it up a bit more ???

Those first stages are anything but flat and will provide better entertainment then the mountain stages. Lack of ITT is bad, but apart from that it's a great route. I hope that the climbers will lose a lot of time in Brittany so they have to go all out in the Alps.

They're way flatter than you think. I looked at the GPX files.
But obv Brittany is always trickey.

Naa those finishes are just false flat.
For example, that stage 2 finish is 2km at 1.5% with a max of 4%.

You're right... ...let's merge this with the ankward race profile thread

If Sivakov wants to get serious about winning this thing, then he needs to gain time in the first six stages I reckon. Then again, Bernal was rather impressive in Tirreno in the stage to Fermo on a very hilly terrain, so that'll be a very difficult task. My biggest fear for Bernal is his team against the Australians. If they go all-out, chances are Bernal might get isolated.

My biggest fear is inside the team: The stup1d coach doesn't have a clue how to race in modern cycling.
For the last 2 years, Jaramillo's tactics have been the worst. Either supporting the wrong horse, changing goals in the middle of the race, or sending doomed long range attacks in the last stages to gain... Nothing

Of course, but Carlos Jaramillo mess-ups are pretty much a gimme. The same applies for his world championships selections. Year in, year out he manages not to do bad, he manages to do godawful. The visions and tactics are all based on talent, rather than simple logic. His shenanigans could very well cost a title or two.

Does anyone know why Spain didn't get an invite to compete in this race? I saw an article a while ago which said that the Spanish federation had asked the organisers why they hadn't been invited but hadn't received a response but I have seen nothing since.

Because Spain didn't participate in any of the U23 Nations Cup races.

Thanks. Seems strange that the Spanish were complaining about it then.

Well, they had a point, because other teams who haven't competed either did get an invitation.
