I find it curious to see that boonen is seen as a major competitor for M-S-R, I'm a big fan of boonen but I think that last season was his last chance to win it, he lacks the acceleration to beat boys like cavendish and farrar.

also curious to see that breschel is tipped as the big favourite for de ronde van vlaandereren, I'm thinking the boy is being hyped a bit.

Quite funny how no one tips Boonen for the Ronde.

He was the best in 2005/2006. Crashed in 2007. Was probably the best in 2008 and 2009 but forced in the defensive because of he who shall not be named.

2010 was the only real year he wasn't the strongest.

Translation: I'm a Belgian and can't stand when people don't tip my favorite and our second best (Gilbert is the best) rider for our classic. Because I'm chauvinistic + obvious Boonen fanboy.
DUDE. Not the goal of this topic to whine about people not tipping your favorite rider. For f. sake! You are becoming so predictable in your posts.

No, it's just strange that everyone tipped the same guy for the Ronde while he has yet to prove him against the big guns. Cancellara not participating in the Ronde or Roubaix is also only a rumour for now. So I certainly wouldn't tip Breschel to even top 3 in Flanders. I wouldn't have said anything, but there were like 10 guys tipping Breschel for the Ronde. Sorry if you want this topic to be a boring sum up your list of riders topic. An ontopic discussion is always welcome.

It seems you also buy into the stuff the Sporza commentators keep saying about Philippe Gilbert being the best Belgian cyclist. Boonen is a better sprinter and cobbled specialist. Gilbert is a way better rouleur(that's good on all types of terrain). Who's better? The one without injuries and past coke suspensions I suppose ;) But when the **** hits the fan, Boonen beats Gilbert on a terrain where Gilbert was thought to be unbeatable. They're both extremely good cyclists and think it's useless to call one better than the other. Especially because they're two totally different cyclists... =/

By the way: did you take into account the new profile for Gent-Wevelgem? They added a lot more hills now. I just don't see Cavendish surviving till the end. Perhaps Freire, but I would be surprised by Cavendish.

And how can I be a chauvinistic Belgian when I voted for N-VA(Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie)? Think about that one will ya. I don't even like this handicapped Federal Belgian state with its 4 million Franskiljons. I know you Dutchies probably don't know anything about Belgium, but really Chauvinistic Belgians? Have you paid any attention to Belgian politics the last decade?

Boonen beats Gilbert on a terrain he was unbeatable?? You refer to the Belgian championships? That's bull**** then. That was a group sprint of 25 on the flat. On a light hilly championship with the hill too far from the finish.

If you want to do comparisons do it right for crying out loud. Gilbert can become 3rd in the Tour of Flanders and probably top 10 in Roubaix if he wants to.
Boonen cannot do a top 10 in the Amstel Gold Race, Fleche Wallone or Liege even if he tried.
God this is why I generally hate Boonen fanboys.

You would sometimes consider ACF94 as a mild, no-nonsense and absolutely objective Evans fan compared to Boonen-fans like you

Mate, it wasn't a normal sprint, hence Gilbert still coming second in it(he's a good sprinter, but there were better sprinters in that group). It was a course tailor made for Gilbert.

Gilbert cannot win the green jersey at the Tour, even if he tried

Two different cyclists like I said. Boonen has a better shot at winning 3 monuments. Gilbert can win them all, but he isn't as strong as Boonen in the 3 monuments(MSR, RVV and PR). So, I think it still balances out :)
