Nope, Coppel and Brajko are both targetting the Tour de France. Just like Evans and Gesink.

Just because they say they are not going ftw doesn't mean they won't.

tdf guys will want to test themselves in the time trial and the main mountain stages (la toussiere and that harder mountain the stage before), so they will automatically end up rather high in the gc

however on the 2nd stage (5% climb) they might want to take it easy and lose some minutes to an outsider

However, he was second on the mountain intermediate time in the 09 Monaco Time trial. As Contador who was first wore the green jersey in the second stage, Tony should have had the mountain jersey in the second stage.

Agreed. All of the top guys will be going hard at it. It's only a few tough days in the mountains and they'll then get 3 weeks off until the start of the Tour. 4 and a half if you count the weeks before the first big Tour climbs.

They're only saying that because they know they aren't in top shape yet and don't want to set the wrong expectations.

I think Gesink and Evans will try and win without going too deep.
Hmmm... I'm expecting these 2 guys to try and win the race. Why? Contador's racing TdF. Twofold. They better get what they can and/or put a little bit of psychological pressure on Alberto's mind.

I dont think contadorrrr care really

Andy thinks Evans and Gesink are not at his level so he doesn't care

Gesink needs to show his form is back from spring

Evans needs it to show the world that he is back and might just might do something at the tour, he needs it for himself - mentally so not 2nd guessing himself before the tour and he needs for the BMC boys - look Im ready lets destroy ourselvess for the goal of winning the tour.

He will have the 3 - 4 best tour team and finially have a whole team ride for him.

And before anyone says BMC have a crap team

Lepo -
Liq - cann
Saxo
Radios and BMC same level
EE
Rabo
OPL

Shack have 4 people who think they are the team leader and only horner and kodi will ride as domestiques if they lose time imo

Levi will spit the dummy and if he is off form he is normally pretty ****
Jani if not right on will be out the back anyway

Right see if that gets people going

Maybe a new thread ?

what happened to the Rui Costa hype in this forum?

he obviously seems to be in good shape, the last two stage finishes might be a little bit too difficult for him (and the time trial too long), but with everybody else not peaking for it...I don't expect him to win but a good position in gc should be possible.

i think rui costa was mostly hyped as possible classic specialist. i remember a post about him doing specially well on the RVV, P-R, and LBL for some1 of his age (22 at the time iirc) but i think people have given up on him when it became clear that he was trying to go for GC in stage races. he did drop some weight this year, a significant amount of weight from what i have heard as he was still riding with his u23 weight but i just don't see the climbing potential in him. still i am a fan of him cus he rides rather aggressively

Fabian Cancellara was 1st in the GC, and so he wore the yellow jersey, but also held the green jersey.

As is normal, the green jersey then passes to the person who was 2nd in the classification, which in this instance was Alberto Contador.

However, because he was fastest to the intermediate checkpoint, Alberto Contador was 1st in the King of the Mountains classification.

Being 1st in a classification supercedes being 2nd, so Contador wore the polka dot jersey that was rightfully his.

As a result, the green jersey in stage 2 was worn by the rider who had placed 3rd in the Monaco time trial - Bradley Wiggins.

Roman Kreuziger wore the white jersey, but Tony Martin took it from him on stage 3 to La Grande Motte.

Hope this clears it up for you.

Ah okay, ithought points would be higher then mountain jersey and therefore i expected Contador to wear green. My mistake;)

Points is ranked higher than mountains if someone holds both - but Contador held polka and didn't hold green, so holding a lower-ranked jersey yourself supercedes wearing a higher-ranked jersey for someone else.

He's an all-rounder. He's good at almost everything, but he's not GREAT at anything.
As a pro it's much better to be very good at one single thing and crap at everything else, than to be "merely" good at several. You'll get much better results.

Progression is always very hard to predict, but it's very likely he'll evolve as a guy who will have to seek breakaways to get more than just decent placings.

That was like reading a comic. Great job with the pictures and all :).

Anybody who doesn't understand it now should be symbolically banned for 1 second.

while he is indeed an all-rounder he is great on hilly parcours (like D_T said) if he focus on those races he could be one of the top dogs in a couple of years there. (talking about the ardennes ofc) as a first year neo pro he road all the monuments and did "well" on all of them

btw have you guys watched the u23 world champs in 2007 and 2008?

in 2007 costa and rodrigues attacked a lot but eventually the race came down to a mass sprint won by peter velits. and in 2008 with 2 laps to go costa was nowhere to be seen when the selection of the strongest guys was made. then out of nowhere the cameras caught him attacking the peloton with every1 that was left behind by the guys up the road and with 1 lap to go he caught the favourites, he ended up 5th on that sprint.

i think that kind of hints at some classics talent

Stage 1 looks interesting - a day for the break maybe, but it is probably too early in the race for that... so an uphill 'sprint' - Roelandts vs. Bossan Hagan vs. Degenkolb?
