2011 Cycling Goals?

Did you set any cycling related goals for yourself for the past year? Total miles, faster pace, or maybe community involvement? As the year approaches an end, how did you do on your goals?

Cool thread idea.

My targets were:

Get more new starters enjoying the sport by helping with my LBS and club social rides and encouraging/handing out tips to newer riders and juniors,

and

Get back up to Cat 1/Elite A racing,

both achieved :)

Well I had a high hopes for that local hill race to go under 30 min, no way I am still around 33 min:mad: Going under or just over 30 min would be very nice.

1. To ride more. Met this goal, scored a hattrick hehe 2. Tell people there is more to cycling than tour de france and LA n his yellow wristband. Achieved this, somewhat. 3. Persuade my friends to buy bike. Failed miserably at this.

My goal was to tour round Wales, especially the parts I didn't know (Powys, St. Davids, the West coast). I found some real gems (Machynlleth, the valley going up to Beddgelert). We chickened out of going over Cadr Idris, as it was horrible that day, but I went over Bwlch y Groes (the Cross Pass), which was absolutely stunning. No definite plan as of yet for 2012, but it may well be the West coast of Ireland. There are still a couple of places I don't know (West Donegal and West Cork)

West coast of Ireland sounds like a good plan. I drove the Beara Peninsula a few years ago...spectacular! I don't recall seeing any cyclists (might be a reason that I am not aware of), but when I return to Ireland, this would be my featured ride. Dingle was beautiful but extremely windy the day we drove it which makes me wonder if that's not usually the case.
Good luck on your goals.

I mean how big is Wales, it is not Canada or Alaska, come on set more ambitious goals, this one is for nannies:D

Not at the beginning of the year I was... in a bad place mentally...
At one point during the sommer I figured I should probably go for some rides now and then, just for pleasure rather than simply commuting. At a good few weeks during which I did so twice a week... then it became too cold and I chickened out.

Well, I am an old git. If everything goes to plan, in 2013 I'm going to cycle back here from Vienna. I'll have to get some decent breathing apparatus for the Irish sea though.

The wind is a BIG factor. We cycled around the Dingle peninsula last year and were lucky enough to get beautiful weather. From South to North is the obvious way to do it, as the prevailing winds are from the SW.

Edit: To Oldborn: lol

RedheadDane, you are the most upbeat, positive poster in this forum. Our sport of cycling is such a great cure for what ails most of us from time to time. Insurance companies should get wise and buy everyone a bike... our healthcare costs would drop like a rock. Anyway, good luck on all your goals and when you get an occasional sunny day, jump back on that bike. Cheers!
