Nice intro.

Two things though:
According to official guides they're going through the tunnel at Galibier (at 2.556 m).
Isn't the pic in post #3 from Stelvio?

Isn't it more like 20 out of 26? (and worth noting: only on 4 occasions have the stage winner gone on to win the GC:Sastre, Armstrong*2, Il Campionissimo )
And is this much different from other MTF's?

Hmm, it might be. I was pretty sure it was 25, but you might be right. Didn't notice that Hitch already mentioned that it was used 26 times so I trust him on this one ;)

They did it twice in '79. Maybe that's what confusing...
Also Landis was in yellow there in '06 so you could argue that it's 21/26, but I guess that's kind of academic.

Madone, that was a dumb mistake from me thanks. It said Alpe but its clearly not.

Never realised that. A fact that completely escaped me.

Would have mentioned it if i had known,Then again it does tend to feature right at the end of the Tour.

We can write on the Champs Elysee thread that the guy wearing the yellow at the start tends to wear it in Pairs. :p

Or that the guy wearing yellow at the end of that stage usually ends up as the winner

Fränk is gonna attack first, force Evans to work and then Andy is gonna bridge to his brother (if he has the legs).

The Tour is Won on the Alpe

I think Leopard will do Frank early, Andy late tomorrow, the opposite of today. They can easily isolate Evans.

Evans just needs to mark Andy all the way to the finish, and try to steal 5 or 10 seconds in the end if he can. I think 57 seconds is absolutely on the limit of what he can comfortably pull back in the ITT.

I agree. 1 minute makes for a close GC in paris imo.

However it iwll be tough for evans to mark.

Frank goes... andy goes.. It is a pretty steep climb also and he can't match their acceleration on this. He could blow tomorrow. I expect Andy to have at least 1.30 going into the itt.

lol no way. If Evans can make Contador crack on this, he can make Andy (after his efforts today) crack on Alpe.

I disagree.

AC isn't at his best. Schleck more or less is.
Schleck has great recuperation. And evans if anything rode out of his limits today also. He will be feeling it big time.

And the shortness of this stage I think benefits the schlecks.
