Cadel Evans:"It's a different style of racing in Spain," the former world champion said. "It'll be more for the pure climbers. I'm going good on the short climbs, but these are longer and steeper

So at the moment he is going good on the short steep climbs but not the longer climbs

Pretty much what I have been saying for the past few months :D

He is naturally better on shorter climbs anyway. You'd never see him ride as dominant and strong on real mountains as he did at TA.

The vuelta 09' is perfect example. On the real climbs he failed and the likes of gesink always dropped him. However on that one short steep (think it was 1km @22% or something), Evans was right up there at the front, the only stage he looked amongst the strongest.

What has Quintana done this year? Only heard about the Clasica de Combita in February.

Chalapud did well in that too.

Really looking forward to see how these guys do in Europe.

cep will do great in europe despite not being the best colombian team but they do have many great young prospects and quintana is inhuman, he rode fastest climb in vuelta valle but field was already sperated on the flat before that by epm une and great wall shimano. he rode faster than henao and sevilla in the climb

You should take it easy. The guy's only 21, and riding in Europe at the top level is different from riding in South America.

when I said last year he would win tour aveneir and named only him many thought I was kidding also perhaps. I don't think he will beat contador here but he should be in top ten best climbers here when he can follow in the flat. to me there is no doubt.

here he was 19... and was the climb longer I've heard from good sources he would've been back to the leaders that's how strong he climbed.

1 11 ANTON HERNÁNDEZ, Igor ESP EUS 3h48'58"
2 41 TONDO VOLPINI, Xavier ESP ACA a 08"
3 103MONTAÑA, Freddy COL BOY a 09"
4 1 ARROYO DURAN, David ESP GCE a 10"
5 21 INTXAUSTI, Beñat ESP FUJ a 17"

7 107QUINTANA, Nairo COL BOY a 36"
8 22 DE LA FUENTE RASILLA, David ESP FUJ a 44"
9 27 DURÁN DAROCA, Arkaitz ESP FUJ a 51"
10 69 HERRERO LLORENTE, David ESP XAC a 01'02"

now ofcourse I can't predict future but I do remember in 2004 I told some friends about soler and I say this is something you've never seen before wait until he comes to europe. then he came and I said to them he will be already at age 23 with the best climbers in the world just like rujano. again no one believed it. of course after it all soler became the bad luck addict that he is now and quintana I have no idea but in raw talent nothing comes close to him apart from some other colombians and rujano.

I'm not saying he's not good, just that he's still very young and unexperienced. It would be perfectly normal if he didn't do too well at the Volta, it wouldn't mean anything regarding his potential.

Was this Subida Urkiola? Up there at 19 years old, some of the Colombians are unreal.

yeah subida urkiola, also notice there freddy montana, he only did 3 races in spain that year I think and was with the best every time. montana who only a year before was in a coma after a horrible crash and has now become a very strong allround rider in colombia.

To be honest, every Protour race should be broadcast. What's the UCI thinking.

Agreed, if UCI knew how to run the sport properley they would enforce this which would mean that the sport would become bigger...

Looks so far a really good line up! Gotta look at contador for the win, with a lot of people who could podium. Could be a good race!

All indications are that there will be no live coverage again, this year.
Whether we get any recorded video and that it appears on Eurosport remains to be seen.
Volta Algarve deja vu anyone?

There's going to be 30-minute highlights but that's about it, I think.

Instead of a useless discussion about earpieces, the UCI should think about selling TV-rights packages for ALL world tour races.

So networks can't just buy 1 race and ignore another.

The last attempt the UCI made at selling all races in one package was the ProTour, that didn't turn out that great.
