The Irish can all sprint, just look at Nico Roche.

Roche is known to be a pretty decent sprinter for a non specialist. Martin is a super-scrawny little climber.

Unless he attacked a bit out and was caught on the line, or there was a bit of a ramp at the end, it's pretty shameful stuff for the rest of the field for him to be right up at the business end of a field sprint. I mean, well done to him and he's obviously in good Spring form for the first time but really...

Wow. Royas won. :D

What a relief. Puhhh.
My thumbs were already crooked.

Das tut man nur in Deutschland glaub ich. ;)

About time Rojas won, happy for the lad, he finally got the monkey off his back.

10 points for every stage win, 5 sprints here... = 50 points, that's as good as 3rd in Wevelgem.

No: 6 WT points for a stage win in the shorter tours (with 4, 2, 1 and 1 for 2nd to 5th). So 5 sprints at 6 points each (if one rider were to take all five) = equivalent to 5th at Wevelgem, or 7th overall in the Volta.

This race reminds me of a bad film that you go to see, because the trailers (profiles) look good.
One stage to get the GC sorted and six stages for the sprinters.............who haven't bothered to turn up.

Nairo Quintana yesterday in a local newspaper:

Qué diferencias te encuentras entre el ciclismo colombiano y el europeo?

Es un poco diferente, acá se va muy rápido en el llano y tienen un líder de equipo pero en Colombia todos queremos figurar y en un equipo puede haber cuatro o cinco líderes, y en el llano o bajando se va, más o menos, suave pero subiendo van con todo.

Nairo was asked what the difference was between cycling in europa and in colombia and he said the difference isn't that big but in europe they ride very hard in flat and every team has basically 1 leader while in colombia teams often have 4 or 5 leaders and the pacing on the climbs is higher than europe.

Then why do all these Colombians get dropped in European mountains?

They have difficulty with corners, apparently all roads in Colombia are arrow-straight.

Dumoulin finished with yet another win, Contador won the race (surprise!)...

I guess Dumoulin was happy to see all those non-participating sprinters.

Conclusion: One exciting (well, as exciting as a MTF Contador win is) stage, six stages with 50-100 km's of exciting racing........... Catalunya, do better next year!
