i want to see what nelson oliveira can do on this time trial. would be nice if he could top 10.

oliveira vs phinney should be interesting, roughly the same age and its the first GT for both, oliveira is more used to the temperatures but he has been doing a lot more work for the team then phinney has.

machado should also pull a decent performance . . . lets wait and see tho

phinney should beat him on normal conditions but Im not sure about tomorrow.

Phinney is good at prologues, these long ITT's he's not favourite. Red jersey will be a duel between Nibali and Wiggins (if I don't forget somebody).

isn't it a bit too hot?

as far as i can tell the temperature will be the same for both. phinney actually has the advantage of not having spent the previous days fetching bottles for his GC leaders and protecting them from the wind so i don't see how oliveira has the advantage . . .

anyway should be interesting to see if wiggins can take 1 minute on nibali on this time trial. i would say he can but not by much.

I think Nibali will have to ride out of his skin to stay ahead of Wiggins on GC. He'll lose at least a minute but not more than 2.

Yes Fuglsang has been looking surprisingly good so far this Vuelta. He now has a minute on Wiggins, so I can see him taking the red in the TT if he doesn't lose time today. He should be able to challenge for a top-5 position in the end even, though he'll probably end around 7-8th. I'd like to see Leopard give him a shot at the Giro next year, who knows what he can do in a GT without the Tour in his legs?

Scrap most of that, Fuglsang won't hold a 23 second advantage on Wiggins. Will probably be between Wiggins and Nibali for the red tomorrow (and perhaps even for the entire GT), although Wiggins looks highly likely to win more than the 51 seconds he needs tomorrow.

I wouldn't be completely shocked if it was more - if Wiggins is in the form to do that on a mountain, I'll be interested to see how it transfers to a TT - the Dauphine result suggests his TT'ing is in excellent form this year.

Anyhow, for tomorrow's ITT battle for red.
For me it's down to
Nibali
Fuglsang @ 29"
Wiggins @ 52"

Think Nibs will struggle to stay with a minute of Brad.
The Dane is the dark horse, but not quite dark enough, imo.

i really think wiggins will be in red after tomorrow with like a 30+ sec advantage over nibbles. the thing is. can he hold that gap on the angliru and peña cabarga? climbs and suit him a lot less then today's climb.

After today, I think Wiggins will do an devastating time trial tomorrow. Nibali and Menchov will be the only GC favorites who finish within 2 minutes of him, the rest will lose a lot more.

Wiggins will be much closer to Nibbles, actually I think Wiggins will take red.

Think he's listing the standings at present, not his expectations for tomorrow.

Pretty hard for anyone to not see Wiggins in red - He put comfortably over a minute in to much better TTers than Nibali in the Dauphine.

Wiggins looking good for red after tomorrow's ITT.
Nibali and Fuglsang could go either way for 2nd or 3rd on GC...

Edit: I forgot about Monfort!!!! He will be in the mix!
