Preliminary startlist on cyclingfever, if its the real startlist then BMC looks like it will be a hard team to beat.

A lot of people said the same about BMC last week. However they still haven't got a single win this year. But indeed on paper it's the team you have to beat.

Looking forward to this race, hope the italians can deliver some decent tv coverage.

Why? Do you think so litte of the other riders?

No, I have no problem with the others, but BMC is like a World team in football, or like a Bauer, Olsson, Cologna, Northug team in XC 4x10 relay, or I don't know.
Evans, Gilbert, Ballan, Van Avermaet, Hincapie. They are just too strong not to win this.

not so sure about that. 1st race of the season for Evans and Hincapie, while Gilbert himself said that he didnt have the legs last week.

Hincapie? No way bmc lose.

Van Avermaet(SP?) is riding very well right now. He did very well last weekend.

Gilbert is a marked man in that field no matter what. Same could be said for BMC in general, but there are still some ways to surprise the other teams.

What's great about this race is there is an "Act of God" element with the road conditions, so a rider could be hot, but too many flats/issues and your day is spent chasing back into the field.

No guarantees. That's what makes it better than many races.

Garmin's looking pretty damn strong on paper, too:

61 Johan Vansummeren (Bel)
63 Ryder Hesjedal (Can)
64 Martijn Maaskant (Ned)
65 Daniel Martin (Irl)
66 Peter Stetina (USA)
67 Christian Vande Velde (USA)
68 Fabian Wegmann (Ger)

The first three alone are enough to challenge BMC at Gilbert's current level. How are these guys going so far this year?

As far as BMC are concerned Ballan is the one to look out for in this race.

BMC mentioned in most recent news post that he is very strong at the moment.

I think Gilbert and others will ride for him as after this there is not a whole lot on offer for him given Gilbert and Hushovd will be protected in classics. Not saying he won't figure in these races, just that he won't be as protected as the others.

Hesjedal has done next to nothing, CN think Maaskant looked strong on the recon of Het Volk and i think somewhere it was said JHVS was doing a lot of work for someone.

I think the other 4 riders are good as well for the course. I think they will attack and maybe try use Wegmann in a sprint ( if he can survive )

Yeah. Evans will ride in support of Ballan and Gilbert. Might be too early for Gilbert. Greg VA might do okay as well. BMC have selected a strong team.
