What I don't understand is why Belgium is working behind. Meersman should be one of the top favourites in that group. Australia will be very happy with the break having Matthews there, and Nocentini is a good card for Italy given the competition and the options they have behind. The break doesn't work for Spain, Netherlands and possibly France.

pretty easy.

Gilbert and Boonen want to win it for themselves.

They don't want Meersman with WC win on his palmares.;)

Contadors attack wasn't very powerful though. Lot of riders answered easily

it was at the end of the climb, wasn't the steep part but for sure not a good sign on his shape that he already attacks.

Velits brothers dropping... Guess Sagan will be alone soon.
Breschel doesn't seem super fresh, lost a bit on Cauberg.

because gilbert is a way bigger favorite in one big peloton and the final cauberg to go, also they aren't riding full
Obviously, but it's not like the break will stay away as things stand now. They could and should play a bit of chicken to let their rivals tire themselves out.

Because they have nobody in front.

Yes but behind them were 2 Belgians..
I know they don't have anyone in the group up front, but they aren't the favourites, so they should attack and not pull. IMO

What a poor move by Contador, he has two team mates at front but only giving a good tempo to peleton stealing 10-15 seconds at least.

Anyone saw him talking Valverde just after that ?

Do nothing until the last 2 laps... Nibali/Moser go crazy, Paolini/Marcato to sprint.

He hurt the Belgian heavies.
