Have you ever ridden a bike? It's not like they have unlimited power. It took a lot of time for the break to get clear today. I didn't watch the first part of the stage but GE probably used a lot of energy trying to avoid an uncontrollable break to go.

What does riding a bike have anything to do with people opinion on greenedge? btw i just came back from a ride and will watch highlight of this race and if i say greenedge suck will it be okay?

It was mentioned on the ticker that GReenEdge were trying to chase down the break or get a man in there.

I just hate it when people look at a stage result and say "The break won. The peloton rested. Easy day for every one."

I don't think people who don't race appreciate how hard that initial part of a race can be with endless accelerations and chasing.

There was oil on the road? Did the breakaway see this? Was it from a motorbike? So far, ive only seen this reported in the Australian press.

It was reported to be cleaned out by the time the peleton got there and peleton rode slowly through that area as well.

it was mentioned on twitter before the departure and the peloton stopped chasing before the start of the climb (the oil on the road was on the descent), so overall i doubt it made much difference for the outcome of the race

edit: there was oil binder on the road, so there was a lot of red sand, I think it was obvious for everyone, even if they didn't know before

That was a super effort by Vande Velde to win that stage. Wow. I was blown away by his efforts, especially in the last 500m.

as long as cadel is not going to win the tour and goss was unable to win any stage, i understand this must tour de fail for many australians.
