Where did you get the idea they're riding for a stage win?

Nibali conceded it's almost impossible to win yellow, and he wants to win stage today in one of the articles I read.

Fair enough - I think I misunderstood the nuance in your statement. Apologies, on reflection I'll retract - it's not the silliest thing I've read on these boards.

That said, didn't he attack from more than 10 kms out on three different stages just in the last tour (how long was the descent into gap, and that other one when him and Samu got caught on the flat)?

I didn't count those because that weren't MTF... Even yesterday Nibali attacked at 20 to go... but that wasn't imho a early attack. I know the definition is ambiguous

what a horrible route this year not even one of the mtf have been steep enough or long enough to make any differences

Well that's not really true at all. Look at the GC. There are differences there. What you mean is Sky has two riders who can follow anyone in the mountains.

To be frank, the Shack is riding this right. Get the best 3 guys across the line as soon as possible for the teams classification. 5th in GC has no prestige, and HZ has shown no ability to attack to drop anyone ahead of him.
