Stage 1: Pfaffenhofen - Mühldorf (193.8 km)

Stage 2: Mühldorf - Viechtach (194.5 km)

There is perhaps no race that uses the terrain available to it as badly as the Bayern Rundfahrt. This could be such a sweet short stage race, you could have a stage for everyone - a sprint, a rouleur stage, a hilly stage, a mountain stage and an ITT. Instead it's 30km of TTs and four sprints of varying sized bunches, every year

They got the terrain to make whatever they want. Romandie, Pays Vasco, Poland. Yet they decide year after year to make .... this. They could have picked up the role of Deutschland Tour once it was shut down.

Next year they should put 60 km of TT.

Pretty exciting lineup on what appears to be a dreadful set of stages mostly.

At least the organisor won't be spending cash on live TV production.

Malori or Barta FTW.

Lineup is great, time for Barta to beat them all Martins', JTLs', Rollands'... At least in ITT But I think he really has a good chance for overall. He's nice mannered guy, ti's hard not to cheer for him especially after last years Giro stage which lost to Amador after epic performance.

Bayern Munich Rundfahrt, yes. It's a great race, almost on par with Paris St. Germain Roubaix.

As a Bavarian this is always somewhat painful, there is simply something wrong about that whole race
Ok it's not something it's a actually quiet a lot

It's pretty strange when you think about this.
In the last 20 years or something Bayernrundfahrt hasn't had one single stage as selective a s a finish on Willunga Hill

This years route is a little better then the route in previous years I think (still not good ofcourse, but a slight improvement).

Hopefully you ll be more reminded of stage 2 in the TDU instead of the Willunga hill stage!

Don't get fooled by the profiles.
Stage 2 for example looks a lot harder then it actually is.
The highest mountain on that stage was a mountain finish in 2008.
Ciolek won in a sprint of 25
The climbs that follow are a bit steeper , though.
The second last climb is actually quiet selective: 3.2km with 8,8% average. Certainly something could be done there, however it is still quiet far from the finish. Could have a lot been closer if they didn't do that stupid loop in the end
But you are right it is the hardest stage in many years and could at least lead to some sort of a selection. Pure TTer will have a hard time

They fear it´ll be too selective if it´s too hard of a profile. Sad - because Bavarian Alps would offer really tough climbs.

Few weeks later every year, there´s Route du Sud in the Pyrenees, who - which is great - have no fear to offer an extremely hard profile to a peloton consisting of a broad variety of rider quality. There, some CT riders always lose 40 or 45 minutes on some not even 200k long stages.

Bayern should be the same, IMHO, but unfortunately probably will never be.

Exactly... Maybe in Bayern they also fear teams want the race not too hard, because for many riders, it´s the first race after a break. Still, it´s too less selective, that´s clear.
