Completely unscientific and unreliable but maybe the splits for the climb in the TT suggest that Evans, who has been quietly impressive, could do some damage on this stage...

Evans 6'55
Wiggins 7'00
Pozzovizo 7'01
Nibali 7'03

Your comments confuse me as usual.

You make it sound like Nibali sucks at climbing.

He is just trolling like always, most of time I just ignore his comment. Funny thing is Nibali just kicked Froom's a** not long ago.:D

Evans on the climbs till 5 km is one of the best riders in the peloton.I think on Vajont he will have a much better chance than tuesday.Montasio is all about survival for him.

Evans in '11 form (TdF) could very well win this stage.

3km climbs say nothing about cols indeed

I know, I said it wasn't scientific... But he does seem to be in surprisingly good shape without drawing too much attention to himself and he may be able to surprise again...

Voted for Scarponi. Has to attack Nibali as he doesnt have the MTT to fall back on.

I'm not sure I get your post. Scarponi is normally excellent in MTT. On par with Nibbles or slightly worse.

Especially after a 50km TT.

Nice stage again by the looks of it but I expect the gc men will wait with the fireworks until they hit the steep ramps at Sella Nevea so the time differences will be quite small. Scarponi or Evans to take the stage with Nibali in their wheel. Maybe with Santa also at the front?
Wiggins is definitely not in bad shape and should do well, although he might lose some time when the race explodes. two bad days in a row for Hesjedal now so if he has the legs he should try something. Still not sure about Gesink, does he have the legs for top5, podium or maybe even better?

What on earth are you talking about? He climbed less than Froom on par with Wiggins. If Froom did not come back for Wiggins, Nibali and Froom can ride away at that particular stage. Nibali probably is one of the most consistent GT riders in his generation. He won the 2010 Vuelat by consistency and he is improving every year. His hey days are still ahead of him.

Didn't he win the vuelta cause anton crashed out?

How did he improve in 2011 when Contador kicked his ***?

Anyway that tour lacked contador, AS and purito. Froome clearly could do what he wanted. Even freaking VDB2 did some attacks. Nibali wasn't that impressive.

Betancur will legitimately raise his hands on the finish line. He looks strong as ever, the man to beat IMO, especially with his kind of GC position.

I can't answer what if question.

Nobody said he is Contador, period. And what's your point bringing up Contador all the time? He obviously is not in this Giro race.

If we hold on a second, since vuelta 2011, barring a mechanical (trentino) when has nibali gained a single second up hill on a mountain finish on wiggins?

You said he improved every year so i brought up 2011, what's the issue?

You should be glad i didn't bring up the vuelta of 2011.

What did today's finish have to do with Tuesday?

Nibali always reminded me of valverde.

Just not good enough in the climbs and the ITT. Very good though but not enough to win the tour for example.

He should win this giro though if he can have the bad day on the right time

Nothing, but he was very impressive still. He's a good climber who doesn't have the attention of the GC contenders, and he doesn't have to work for others.

I'm not saying he's the outright favourite, but he wouldn't surprise me if he ends up winning the stage. And he'd deserve it after today's show.

The issue is when I am say improving I am comparing 2011 Nibali with 2010 Nibali. Nobody is comparing him with any other riders. Are you just pretending you can't comprehend words to make bait after bait?

Just because he keeps saying he has the best numbers ever don't let your eyes deceive you. If Ryder was on any sort of day today Wiggins's Giro would have been over. He can thank Millar and Garmin that it isn't.

I suspect a rest day couldn't have come at a better time for Hesjedal. If Tuesday's stage had come tomorrow then I think his race would have been as good as over already. As it is he has time to recover, both physically and mentally and go on the attack on Tuesday. He's gutsy enough to try it and knows he has nothing to lose now anyway. Just be interesting to see if he has the legs to do it. Scarponi looks good for an attack on Tuesday too I think.

agree, Ryder needs it. Too bad today's time loss is still significant though. I hope he recover well, Ryder always said he gets better when race goes on. I hope this is true for him in this Giro.

Don't forget that Ryder had some really bad days at this point of the race in Giro 2012 as well, although he was lucky enough not to lose time then. In TDF 2010, when he was 6th, there were also some stage in the 2nd week when he almost got dropped from a 60 man peloton on a semi-mountain stage.

So I wouldn't write him off yet even though he's had a bad day.

Hope this will be his only bad day in the Giro;)
