Cav won four stages, Evans none. Evans only finished once in the top 4 of this Giro so far. But in the end he's going to win the jersey. Ridicilous.
Hence why Cav has a 35 point lead. Evans is second because he's finished in the top ten in half of the stages.

I like that the points competition isn't about who can win most stages, but who is most consistent. That said I do hope that Cav will take it.

yea, but perhaps equally important make sure the main actors actually care about the competition and not just participate by default. Uran, Evans, Santa, Nibali and Betancur ain't going to lift a finger for the sake of points.

Thing is: why did he lost the wheel in the first place? I do think it's because he was already at the limit. 250kms is not for everyone.

Was what I was thinking as well. Was looking forward to Viviani v Cav in the Giro and put his previous attempts down to a few more lessons needed at finishing school. Almost perfect leadout today, but he had nothing left it seemed, miles behind,

Could have better luck, if he survives the weekend...

The strangest thing about the points classification last year was that Cavendish was the only rider trying to win it and still didn't. It should be a competition for non GC riders, not a consolation prize.

All round that was the best I can remember from Cav
250Km. He got over all the hills near the front of the peloton, rode the last 6km with no team-mates cos they were all destroyed leading all day, and then finished with a long sprint from way back. Chapeau.

That Caruso dude made a big move like that late in a stage in an earlier tour: Volta a Catalunya?

He has a big engine. Chavanel like?

Today was not a good day to try though, too long a straight.

Indeed a very strong rider. Maybe not world class like Chavanel, but close to him.

His late attack was in Pais Vasco, BTW.

Wasn't it Suisse 2011 where Caruso competed with the best uphill?

He's one of the most underrated climbers, but this Giro he's been great so far.

Stage 19 of the 2009 Tour was better IMO but today was certainly up there with his best.

Yes, I just had a look at his 2011 season. You´re right.

He´s really great, very complete and aggressive. And seems to get better as the years go by.

Yes I dont think we've seen the last of him this tour. I like him. Decisive.

Katousha are having a belter.

Yeah, Cav usually doesn't get a lot of credit here, but when he's on form he's able to survive surprisingly tough stages, and his top speed seems to remain the same. A very convincing sprint today, although Nizzolo tried his very best.

He's certainly "honoring the Giro" this way.
