But that's like 40 k from the finish, right?zebedee said:Sun breaking out at last. Pleasant breeze off the sea. Stupendous scenery. Roads all nicely swept. What more could a rider ask for?
The most difficult part of this route is the climb and descent around San Mauro Cilento. First section off the coastal flat is very steep - ridiculously so!

There are a zillion threads about Sky, Wiggins and Froome already. This is for today's race.rainman said:Sorry some mention of Wiggo doing double.

About 75k from the end. The first steep section where it loops inland off the coast road at Acciaroli, after Agropoli. It then descends through Pollica and back to around sea level. I'm not a road cyclist but I went around there yesterday and that descent looked scary to me - very sinuous. I'm probably underestimating the riders' skills though!theyoungest said:But that's like 40 k from the finish, right?

Agreeing with the wonderful views for us TV viewers. A dry road will make the riders happy in that last descent into Marina. Twisty, tight switchbacks and narrow single-track road. GoogleEarth street view looked scary even from 10400km away.zebedee said:Sun breaking out at last. Pleasant breeze off the sea. Stupendous scenery. Roads all nicely swept. But hey I don't care, we're gonna attack everyday.
