I might give this "black album" thing a try
You don't think it's possible to be a cycling legend and overrated at the same time?

Maybe an argument could be made that Cancellara was lucky today, but that argument coming from the two biggest Boonen fans on this forum who take every chance they can get to belittle the achievements of Cancellara, it just looks like sour grapes. It's hard to take such an argument in good faith.

Exactly. Many riders have a few forum members here that really dislike them and take any opportunity to belittle their accomplishments. Contador, Boonen, Cav, Sagan, Wiggins, Nibali, pretty much every top rider. You can almost predict the posts before they appear and once you recognize who they are you just kind of read them and chuckle but you don't take take the arguments too seriously as you know they have no objectivity when discussing that rider.

Who got second in those 4 World TT titles and Olympics? :D

I'd rather win one WC RR or Olympic RR. :D

As on cue. Comedy gold. Where's Chewy?

It is. Its also possible for a album to be legendary and overrated. So if "Cancellara is like the black album" I have high hopes that the black album is going to be as good as "the essential bob Dylan"

My post was a joke, stop taking everything so seriously.

Cancellara got lucky, deal with it. Boonen has gotten lucky, Gilbert has gotten lucky, Eddy Merckx has gotten lucky. Am I belittling them now? No.

I'm glad I made you laugh, it was my intention. Though nothing is as funny as your horrible options for this poll, what a fail!.

Cancellara won because he was the strongest rider (with the best luck) from a strong team. Vanmarcke did not because he was the strongest rider (with the best luck) from a less strong team. None of the Omega nor BMC riders placed because while strong teams, they did not have good luck - they still rode strong.

Unlike MSR, LBL, and GL, RVV and PR require quite a bit more luck. And that is why they are such interesting races year in and year out.

I also thinking that is was his best tactical race. Especially in the final 5k. Vanmarcke was perhaps, on par, but Cancellara was on weakening side, and hid it well.

The Black Album was Metallica's commercially biggest success, but not even amongst their 3 best albums.

It's really not hating if you call this win lucky:

- Hushovd and Pozzato lacking the shape they used to have
Yeh, he is also pretty lucky that Merckx has retired. Imagine what would have happened otherwise.

Your throwing the word "luck" around as if were the only element in the Universe. There is no luck only rule to be applied to bike racing.

Where did I say Cancellara only won because of luck? There's a difference in saying he got lucky and he only won because of luck. ;)

Yes, he was strong today, but definitely beatable(unlike the Ronde van Vlaanderen the day before where he was by far the strongest).

Funny you say that now when the aim is to delegtimize fans victory - oh yeah my favourite riders have gotten lucky too. But when they actually do win its all- omg Gilbert/ boonenbis so great. Best guy won etc.

Lol, I'm pretty sure I said the Ronde van Vlaanderen would have been different last year if Cancellara didn't crash out. Unlike you, I'm not afraid to admit my favorite riders can get lucky.

You act as if Cancellara never gets lucky and wins because of his awesomeness alone.

How can a guy like Cancellara be overrated? I really don't see it

He's only overrated in the eyes of Boonen fans. Who, surprisingly, tend to not like him.

Wonder how many money Cance bought off Sep with

Me too.

I suspect Sep received the biggest pay off since the Vino-Uran deal at the Olympics.

All you guys saying Sep is dumb... he just had the biggest pay day of his career! Smart guy! You really think he would cooperate with Luigi if he was serious about the sprint? I don't think so.

When you see two riders in conversation like that in the run-in to the finish, what do you think they might be discussing? The after party? The weather?

And that sprint. That was lame. Luigi goes past Sep in the saddle (gets out briefly) and Sep doesn't even pedal to the line.

Vanmarcke sold this race. Obvious. Why can't you see this? Why aren't you al as smart as me? I am so ronery.
