The other Tour winner that Richie Porte has raced with was Bradley Wiggins, last year. Here's what the Tasmanian had to say about what it was like working with the 2012 champion... and the runner-up, Chris Froome.

“But Brad and Froomey are guys I've raced with a lot.

“Brad and I raced together at pretty much every race we did last year. And Froomey was there a lot too.

“Brad is Brad. He knows what he wants. But the orders don't always come from him. The orders would often come from Sean Yates who was a big mentor for Brad; he was the most brilliant sports director I think I've ever had, other than these guys like ‘Nico' Portal who models himself a lot on Sean.

“Last year, Sean was kind of like the unsung hero: he was absolutely calculating. Before the Tour had started, he had it all worked out in his mind.

“The other rider on the list is Chris Froome and I have to give full credit to Froomey: in the last year he's really stepped up on every level. The way he works with his guys is impressive. He's really become a leader!"

Thank you

Frustrating to see another team doing the yellow jersey's work

your lack of understanding cycling is again baffling

So its forbidden to cheer for a race situation now?

Or is it that your reading skills failed you again?

i'm expecting to see purito in the mix. Other wise his bid for TDF doesn't mean anything. He should have concentrated to win the Giro or next vuelta. So far he is the only forgotten GC contender.

of course he needs to attack vemntoux early before the wind and in the forest when tempo is slower and oxygen is less, which is his advantage

but isnt the climb too long to stay away the whole distance. Esp when we know for certain that sky will ride tempo and try to close down, like in stage 8.

That's the whole point of what Movistar are doing. They must believe this pace will mean sky will implode on the slopes... And what we've seen so far, they're probably right

That requires Sky riders actually being in the peloton....

Not quite, intermediate sprint is with 34,5 km to go

yep. but the race is going so fast, i think the organisers will be forced to relax the cut-off time.

That is because he hasn't been able to do any. He will be dropped like a stone.

repeating my earlier doubt:

has any one rode the entire ventoux climb on his own? (excluding TT stages)

or in short, does quintana really have a chance today?

If he does not want the Clinic to crash, no.

I recall that someone started Ventoux with 20-25 minutes of advantage and was able to reach summit with 5 minutes lead to win the race on the descent

Edit: Eros Poli did it at 1994 TDF

Who says Quintana has to attack at the bottom already?

Eros Poli, one of Cippo's launchers. Now that was something.

I thought Virenque was alone for the entire (or at least most) of the climb, though?

He was in the breakaway and dropped them on Ventoux
