In 2007 a similar (Identical?) stage was ridden with echelons, which resulted in a 80-man bunch sprint.

(Reposting from another thread) In today's broadcast on Danish TV, Michael Rasmussen stressed that they rode this stage or one almost identical in 2007. Astana were hammering away in the crosswinds and only 80 riders were able to stay with the peloton that day. Everyone else lost more than 3 minutes (including Moreau, who was one of the main GC contenders having just won the Dauphine). It was only because Menchov understood Russian that Rabobank was prepared for Astana's move!

cool story . indeed vino took no prisoners even if moreau was a friend, he was mad because when he crashed nobody waited

the crosswinds show should be great but i'm afraid we'll see lots of favourites crashing out...

The 2009 Armstrong echelon stage was in the same area.

Tomorrow on the Mark Cavendish show...

Hopefully Goss will show some signs of life.

They also had a meteorologist in the TV studio (Danish TV2) talking about the weather conditions in that area. Apparently the Rhône valley serves as some sort of funnel which causes the high wind speeds from north downwards to the coast. It can get pretty nasty when it's windy.

Could be an exciting stage!

Another bunch sprint.

Don't mind a crosswind drama on the way resulting in a handful of GC pretenders dropping time (no injuries please).

Maybe Nairo? :(

Nah, Movistar will be the very ones at the front of the bunch applying the pressure. I've seen them do it at Paris-Nice before.

** Pinot

* Rolland, Schleck

Schleck has been really attentive so far, and his team has been good at keeping him well-placed at all times, so I don't see it happening.

On the profile it looks slightly uphill in the final, I assume it's just exaggerated and is actually pan flat?

Cav for the win. At least a boring flat stage will give me a chance to sleep in.
