Presumably it's too late for Henao and Sky to part company?

He's gone backwards this year. Struggling up anything much than a 6k climb

Over-rated or not at the right team?

sounds like you want instant progressive success.
Henao is doing fine overall, he had a bad day. Hes 25, performance will go up and down a bit, its normal.

They're still overtrained.

Seems that way. If it's true that the domestiques rode the equivalent of a grand tour in the January training camp then the likes of Cataldo, Zandio, Kiryienka etc are effectively racing their third grand tour of the year at the Vuelta. It fits with them all having brilliant form in March/April (Paris-Nice/Tirreno/Pais Vasco etc) and then gradually getting weaker through the rest of the year.

That's OTT. He was going well as recently as Poland three weeks ago and up until the second half of the Giro he'd had an excellent first half of the season.

I'd also add that Sky won't find anybody else available on the market who is at Henao's level.

You are way over reacting. I am upset about what is happening to Henao but I have to accept that he is still learning. It took Uran around 5 years FGS. Even riding at low level he is top 20 in GT's. He is really good. I am sure that he will overcome this crisis. Not sure when but he will do it.

Reading this thread and the other thread I am starting to realize that Brittish fans a liitle harsh. Perhaps new to cycling.

Not completely having a go at Henao, though he has been disappointing this year. I think even the most one-eyed Colombians would have to admit that.

Was thinking more of is he a rider that will improve at Sky? What will be his role there? I doubt whether he'll get a shot at GT leader next year, and he's already blown this one

Even though you say that he has been dissapointing this year, he is also one of the reasons Colombia is number 2 in the UCI rankings and we will get 9 riders in the World champiobships. And read again what I said, that even at low level he has been top 20 in his last GT's. Even an one eyed fan can see that he has talent.

I think he will get another shot at the Vuelta next year, Porte will do Giro and Froome will obviously do the Tour. Henao could then chose either Giro (more likely) or the Tour to domestique for the other two.

I don't think he was super in the Tour at all.

Yes, "super" is definitely pushing it. He was a good, useful, domestique, but "super" when applied to a support rider at that Tour describes someone like Kreuziger.

It's interesting to read Roche's comments about the Tour though. Not just the stuff about Contador's approach, but the details about the domestiques roles. Kreuziger and Rogers were apparently told to prepare for the high mountains, while Roche was told to prepare to work on the medium mountain and hilly stages. It seems that Saxo are a lot more organised than Ag2r (although, really, I suppose that's obvious).

Good to see Roche, who always comes across as a very nice dude, finally get a big win. It will be interesting to see if he can hold his form for three weeks after a long season and with the Tour in his legs.

I don't think a team needs 3 GT leaders, 2 is enough to cover all 3 GTs. There are enough riders who've done a good tour, vuelta or giro, vuelta. Henao is still a work in progress, but I'd say this Vuelta is now stages and supportng Uran.

i think people are judging Henao a bit harshly because he rides for sky.
sky crushed everybody last year and they blow their own trumpet a lot with regards to their scientific approach and in as little as 12 months we've come to expect them to deliver all the time.
so when Henao goes "bad" like today it looks worse than it really is

None of the comments I have read are against him because of his team - Henao is yet to reach the engine, the tactics & the maturity to lead a GT,Whereas Uran has done it and saved Sky from embarrassment during Il Giro- just be let go by the team.....Im certain Henao & Uran will work out the leadership & both will ride as one - as they did on the 2012 Giro when the team wrongfully built around Cavendish and yet both reached top 10....

Agree, always thought these are the types of finishes Roche would be able to be competitive. Would rather want to see him get another win likes this later in the Vuelta rather than chase GC placement, but thats likely not going to happen now.

What a year for Roche. Super in the Tour and now again in the Vuelta. Great going...

He was crap in the Tour and the spring. The Vuelta was always his main goal and it looks good so far.

Good to finally see him get a big one

Agree, less focus on the GC, more focus on winning stages. He could be a very good breakaway rider if he just gave up on the GC.
