So, both the Nibali thread and the Contador thread are getting littered with this discussion, so that normal discussion about events of present day gets overshadowed.

So here it is, one thread with one simple question, who's the better GT rider in 2014.

Contador the strongest, Nibali obviously the most accomplished.

To clearly delineate strength and accomplishment, consider the following. Suppose I took part in the Tour. Everyone else crashed out. I'd win and be the most accomplished, but not the strongest.

What does this thread accomplish in the first place?

Gives a place for Nibali-Contador comparisons so their respective threads can be kept about them.

Brilliant poll. Vino forever!

So far Nibalis have done most to deserve the vote. Also since the Vuelta is still on going of course. Anyway looking at Contador going, you can only wonder how strong he would have been in the tour. I believe stronger than Nibali, but that is impossible to "prove".

So to sum up; Vino certainly should get the vote.:)

Lo Squalo destroys Pistolero obviously. :p

Seriously speaking though, probably Contador. But Nibali not far away. It would be a close battle, and Nibali winning the battle wouldn't surprise me.

Being a Nibali fan of course requires me to vote for him. I assume all Vino votes also count for Nibs as well. ;)

You guys think nibali had a good 2014? Yea i guess so but...

Hopefully he won't be like this every year where he peaks one time in a GT and beat scrubs and he's a scrub for the entire year.

I will vote after the Vuelta. In reality we can't debate this question till the season is over. VN has a gt...yes the biggest one, but that is it. AC has been winning all season long - He just hasn't finished a GT yet. When he does then we can talk. :)

Nibali is the best GT rider of 2014 based on accomplishments, but he is far from the best GC rider of 2014 - Contador takes that spot. If Contador wins the Vuelta, he would equal Nibali in terms of GT strength this season. Also, where is Quintana as a 3rd option?

Nibali won the most important race of the year. He performed great against mediocre competition after the pre-race favourites crashed out. Nibali sucked in every

Contador was up there in every race he races. In every GC he won or he got second, he was only unlucky that he crashed out of the Tour. He probably was the strongest climber in every race he entered.

Sad that some people freak out and attack each other. I am fan of Contador and fan of Nibali in second instance.

The level AC has shown this year at every race + the performance in the Vuelta despite his injury... I think he was at 2009 level. 40 seconds faster on climbs like Pla d'Adet or Chamrousse. Nibali not as fresh as he was in the last mountain stages. AC either cracking him on Hautacam or a fight for seconds in the TT with Alberto taking it.
